. >> everybody, thank you for joining us on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm catherine heenan. we begin with breaking news out of san francisco. police are at an apartment near or said were a man has barricaded himself inside. this is happening just west of 19th avenue on gonzales strive. police got a call about 8.30, this morning that a man broke into an apartment and was making threats. officers have been trying to contact them and they say he might be having some kind of mental health emergency. no one has been hurt and the public is being asked to avoid that area. well, the big event of the day, of course, the solar eclipse. so this is a cool few. that's a live look from nasa's coverage of the celestial event. even though the bay area is not in the path of totality but clear skies here giving us us some great views. a kron 4 charles clifford is joining us from the exploratorium in san francisco. they hosted a watch party for all of this. and chuck, i got to see it for about 5 seconds out on the deck. but it was beautiful. it was beautiful. we've got clear blue sky skies her

thank you for joining us on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm catherine heenan. a gray whale has been found dead just off the shore of alameda and san francisco bay. not clear yet how it died, although we do know it is a popular time of year for whales to swim up the coast. kron 4 s charles clifford joins us live from treasure island. and charles, what do we know? >> well, right now as we speak, kind of an unusual sight on san francisco bay. there's a tow boat pulling a the carcass of this great well across the bay. that's the san francisco. there is kind of right between and the transamerica pyramid over there and probably hard to see. but they wanted to move it from alameda. so did wash ashore and get stuck on the sand and they're taking it to another location so they can examine and hopefully figure out why this whale died. >> monday morning, the remains of a 40 foot long adult female gray whale. we're slowly towed across san francisco bay from crown beach in alameda to angel island. the carcass was first spotted on saturday evening just offshore from alameda.
