breaking news out of the east bay. fire crews scrambling to knock down a fast moving fire at grizzly peak in the berkeley hills as a scorching heat wave sets in. it is an ominous sight tonight. this is the view of that hillside. you see the glow towards the top. that's the fire. needless to say, they had a lot of people nervous. nbc bay area's pizza rados is there. and pete, we're hearing from a man who was in that area when the fire broke out. now he claims he heard a ton of fireworks go off right before it happened. this is exactly what firefighters have been warning about. yeah. that's right. and they're saying that this fire could be fireworks related. but where we're standing, you can still see it's still an active scene off of grizzly park road, north of park drive, where that hillside fire took place. but it was contained at two acres with these fire crews from multiple agencies acting fast to make sure it was contained. but let's show you some video of those flames of the flames earlier tonight from that reside

both the north and the east bay will be hit with extremely high temperatures this week along with the hot weather comes an increased risk of wildfires. kron 4 charles clifford >> has details now from contra costa county. >> well, here in concord on monday, the temperatures reached into the upper 80's. and you take a look at the hillside behind me. they're a pretty dry grass and shrubs out in the lime ridge open space. but the real heat kicks in starting tuesday morning. the national weather service has issued an excessive heat warning for a large portion of california and most of the bay area's starts tuesday morning and runs through saturday. a five-day period high temperatures could reach between the 90's and 100 tense. there's also no heat advisory during the same time for coastal and bayside areas along with the hot weather, gusty winds and low humidity are possible. a red flag warning has been issued for a large swath of northern california, including parts of sonoma marin, napa solano contra costa and alameda counties. >> this could be a very significant period with 4th of july

another fire in the east bay over in antioch. it was a vegetation fire that caused evacuations to many nearby. multiple crews were on the scene to protect nearby structures. and you can see in that video just how widespread it was. officials say there's no information or detail right now on whether the fire was caused by fireworks. it's still under investigation, but no injuries were reported. another fire that was reported was in the city of pittsburgh, a residential property. thankfully, no structural damage was done, but it did come close. it was a large tree in front of a home that caught fire. you can see in that video just how massive that fire was and how big the tree was. thankfully, the flames were put out. no homes caught fire. and as of now, there were no injuries to be reported. >> and we've got a chance to speak with contra costa fire about their response to the recent flames and how crews are prepping to tackle more as the holiday weekend. celebrations continue. >> well, one thing we pride ourselves here at cannes f

so the view from our east bay hills camera looking out towards what you can barely see the east bay valleysause that marine layer has grown much deeper. it's dense at the coast, so some visibility issues there. 54 santa rosa. it is in the 60s pretty much in our inland valleys, but these numbers are coming down this morning. they came down yesterday. so the coastal fog with patchy dense spots this morning and a lot of cloud cover beginning to thin out throughout the afternoon. but we get our cooling trend over the weekend. it continues into next week with temperatures near or a bit below average for the first and middle part of the workweek. so here's a look at all that cloud cover moving up from the south. we have a south surface wind, and so that's pulling up that extra cloud cover. eventually it will work to help our air quality. and then by the second half of the weekend we'll see the clouds really banked up along the coast and more sun. so a couple things going on with that system linking up with another one to the north of us. there's a look at that wind. it gets a little bit more robu
