this afternoon on 101 just north of cochrane road in morgan hill. you can imagine it caused some major traffic delays. it took crews about 90 minutes to clear the scene, and about three hours for traffic to get back to normal. new at six tonight. a big boost for housing projects in san francisco today, city leaders celebrating a new ruling that allows san francisco to fast track approval on housing projects. on friday, the state department of housing said the city didn't build enough new housing in 2023. so in order to fix this, the agency ruled the city will now follow senate bill 423. that legislation was introduced by state senator scott wiener last fall. it allows the city to bypass standard approval from the planning commission for most new construction projects. already, 3500 affordable housing units have gone through a process without the obstruction that it has had in the past. the change will reduce the time to takes for the permit to be granted from an average of three years to just about six months. up next, sending a message to san jose

concord, livermore and morgan hill all coming in with those 90s and the trend overall continues to be a little bit cooler here compared to this time yesterday. we're down anywhere from one to about four degrees cooler for some of those inland valleys. now what we're seeing right now, the big change that got us out of the one hundredths is the storm track. it's trying to move a little bit closer that has some milder air with it, and we have fog at the coastline. so both of those things helping to push some of that hottest air a little bit more off to the east. so for tomorrow i think we're okay. i think we're going to be able to manage here. we'll start it off with 59 at 5 a.m. we're up to 77, 11 a.m. then by 1 p.m. tomorrow, we're at 86. however, yes, that heat is going to surge later this week. i'll have more details on heat advisories for the bay area, and you can see how these extend all the way through much of california. that next update coming up in about 15 minutes. okay. thank you jeff. it may be cooler outside, but the bay area is still under a heat advisory this week, and th

bay area's jocelyn moran joins us from cal, headquarters of cal fire headquarters in morgan hill.y. we already saw today at the top of that, firefighters say the one in east bay could be linked. now, this could be for firefighters across the bay area super busy because of the heat and the fireworks. yeah, exactly. jez. so, cal fire is making sure they are fully staffed this week as temperatures soar, and if they need to bring in more people, they will do so. also tonight, cal fire is asking people to leave fireworks to the professionals because as we know, just one could spark a fire. these are some of the hottest temperatures we've seen in a long time. triple digit temperatures. the wind, the dry vegetation, and the 4th of july. all factors that together could have dangerous consequences. a lot of our concerns have to do with the public and safety and what they're planning on doing for the week tonight. cal fire urging residents to not set off fireworks themselves because they know all too well how they could spark a fire in an instant . it happens every year. we see it often and

that will be morgan hill over to the east bay instead of 109. well, this is better for you, but still hot 103 in concord, 103 in livermore, 102 in danville. over to hayward 87. we're at a cool 65.5 moon bay. san mateo, 83, san francisco. after some 80s today, we'll be back down to 75. in downtown and 65 in the marina right here for the north bay, 96 in santa rosa and back to napa. 95. okay. tomorrow, last day of the heat wave. by the time we get to this weekend, that hot area high pressure continues to move a little bit more off to the east. so not as hot this weekend. in fact, we could have some low 90s coming our way once we hit sunday. but here's the other thing. this area of low pressure is going to develop to the south. so low pressure, high pressure, going to act like a conveyor belt, pull up some tropical moisture with some thunderstorm chances. so i wanted to take a closer look at this. and you'll see as we head through saturday morning, those clouds moving in from the south. so it's going to feel a little bit tropical, a little bit stic
