i'm very proud to say the i also am -- that i am also a filipino american. i think i might be the first filipino american woman to serve on this commission. that certainly is a constituency that is important to me and what i believe has not had a strong voice in terms of public policy decisions or being involved in the political process. aside from that, i know there are many constituencies in the city, whether african-american, latino, asian, pacific islander -- communities that may not feel they have a representation in a public policy forum. my background as a community organizer and someone who has believed in having that access and bringing people together is going to be something i will bring to this commission, and hopefully, they will keep me accountable and also allow me to listen to all types of issues to be able to come up with the most sound policy decisions that impact their community. supervisor campos: any other questions? just a final question, if i may. is there a specific goal or objective or objectives that you would like to focus on if you

i am also a founder of a technology firm. i am also on the board for women in science, technology, and engineering, with the purpose of educating women to get into the industry of science. above all, i am an immigrant, which is the hardest thing i have done in my life. forget about the other things that i have done. all these connections make you who you are. being, on this commission has been a privilege and an honor for me. it is something that is very close to my hard and my whole purpose had been not only to be here and let people know how difficult it is to be an immigrant, as to improve the quality of life for them. but also, wringing my community, the iranian-american community into the larger american community. because we are relatively new immigrants, we live

i would also like to say the same to the fagans. when i first got here, then- chief fagan was quite a force to be reckoned with. i remember him coming into the office, and he would just walk in with three or four guys dressed in blue. they knew their stuff. it was amazing. he was incredible. it was a great loss, a personal one and a professional one, so my thoughts and prayers are with him. i also have an in memoriam for ms. dodie rosencrantz. her patronage was felt from the bay area to paris and venice. she died in her home on saturday. mrs. rosen krantz, whose unconventional style charm dignitaries and hipsters alike. she was 91 years old. born georgette macy, she was the widow of john rosencrantz, who died in 2001. ms. rosencrantz' father created a movie chain that became united artists. she was a fixture in san francisco and was known worldwide for her philanthropy, fashion sense, graciousness, and party-hosting prowess. she and her late husband were staunch supporters of the museum in san francisco, and after the 1989 earthquake

commissioner antonini: i also have a few things to report. i was involved and participated in a meeting on tuesday night, the 16th, on 777 valencia, which will be before us today, with neighbors, with the project sponsor. jim meeko was there, and owners of properties in the area. i thought it was very productive. i spoke with regard to the project 307 for 5th street. i spoke to leaders on middle income housing and and led the group is it -- is exploring that closely. i was somewhat troubled to hear there is a planned city funds are being spent on a concept to charge fees on drivers entering san francisco or downtown san francisco. i think particularly at a time when our funds are somewhat short it is probably not the right time to do this, and it may never be in my opinion. i would be interested in what percentage of our restaurants, our retail big and small, our cultural, and our medical facilities and our sports facilities -- the revenue comes from people who are non-san franciscans and non-tourists who were staying in san francisco. a lot o

i also think good planning and the local level will enhance good planning at the regional level. i do not think we can engage in could regional planning unless we know what is needed at the local level. one final thing is that i welcome the employe of the industry. that is something we have been doing for the last six months. at some point we have to move, and i think what is happening is there are people who genuinely believe the city should not have our role in deciding health care to the extent this legislation is trying to do. there are people who believe planning is ok, and at the end of today that as a fundamental difference. i believe with some individuals it does not matter how many changes you make. they will oppose it because they do not want change. we have an obligation to make sure the interests of san franciscans are addressed. that is underlying this legislation, which is why i request that we move as quickly as we can. the body that is responsible for having to make these decisions -- the planning committee voted 5-1 for a reason. they are ready to act. the longer

i have also worked on the mayor's health care task force. i have worked on the back street business task force. one of the things i really appreciate about entertainment, night life, art, business business is the finalization these businesses bring to save his code to allow the city -- to san francisco, to allow the city to have businesses that are centralized. my interest in the entertainment commission was sparked last year when our mayor was throwing around the possibility of adding the commission. i did not agree with that idea because i think the commission plays a valuable role, and i felt i had a voice that could serve a strong purpose on that commission. i own a couple of clubs right now. i owned my first club when i was 21, off market street. i started throwing big parties, primarily hip-hop, when i was 18, that or of the underground friday. but that was a long time ago. i think i bring a perspective that crosses live music, dance music, and hip-hop, which i think is part of a unique perspective on this commission because we need to

i also represent san francisco in that team, because i am the only guy from san francisco on it. i just think there should be -- like i said before, i think there should be more lsps around san francisco. even elementary schools have too many kids that seek help, but do not know where to find it. i just really want to get in everybody's mind that this is a very important job to keep in schools. thank you. i chose someone i have tremendous faith and, and also somebody that john had tremendous faith in. and i know that it was always intended. john had intended that succession. but it was not obviously going to be in the way it happened. it was going to be in a number of years. she would have had a chance to mentor into that role. people would have gotten used to her. when he felt we were taking care of he would have moved on. that was his way. instead, she was suddenly catapulted into this job in a much more difficult circumstance than anyone imagined, at a time when everybody was morning. the building was not yet finished. there were a number of challenges. but she rose to all of them. and what she has in common with john is that she wakes up and sees what is in the best interest of the residence. that is what we do this for. it is on that that every decision should be changed. she keeps that foremost in her mind. she has done a fantastic job. i am sure that in that laguna honda corner of heaven, and john is looking down very proudly at her. i also want to i alsohsa -- i also want to say that hsa does come annually to inspect the training manualank you very much. >> thank you. director of the coalition on homelessness. i think what you are hearing in the report is that our collective efforts to transform shelters into places where all persons are treated with dignity and respect and where human rights are embraced and where they are launching pads into permanent housing is still in process. there is a lot of hard work being done. collective work on all sides. homeless people are working hard to transform the shelters, and shelter providers are working hard. i just wanted to cover two things in particular. one is around the intent of the shelter monitoring committee, to ensure that shelters are meeting the standards of care. if not, the legislation calls for the department of public health to do an investigation and levy a fine if they are not in compliance. the hope is that no fine would ever be levered -- levied against the shelter, that they would take corrective action and back it would not get to that place, but unfortuna

think commissioner mazzucco understands our intent and understands that we want to be included, but i also think it is important that this leadership reflect, as i said, to affect the make-up of the commission, but also very importantly, gender diversity. i believe commissioner chan brings a different set of values to the commission. i think she is very diligent. she has already proven in terms of sharing information or making sure everybody is informed, i think she would be an excellent candidate. i'm sure -- i think we need to consider gender diversity. commissioner hammer: president marshall, thank you, and i appreciate your comments on vice president as well as the president, and your comments about making sure we have a leadership that reflects the commission and reflects what individual commissioners view as strengths and weaknesses. having a team, obviously each commissioner needs to make for himself or herself the judgment about what -- which person will best serve the commission and the community. with respect to that, i take our president elect mazzucco's nomination very seriousl

so, you know, we apologize but i also do agree with staff recommendations. president miguel: commissioner moore? >> i appreciate the staff's thoughtful analysis and comments made by the commissioners. i think we all feel that this particular church and this growth needs support except the support does not come by us doing what which we really can't do. the recommendation to us comes from the law in anticipation of the development rules which govern the city. what i would suggest, and that is within support of what all commissioners are saying, to work with the supervisor, we find ourselves with access to church properties, vacant properties we're struggling with to maintain and there's no taker for one either remission them or use them for their intended purpose. i can only remember the church in my own neighbor, clay and larkin. very beautiful building. that might be too far away but the city has many church properties which are underutilized or in the process of being abandonned. so i would look for everybody to help identify those properties and help this

i also thought it was fascinating that when president obama said what he thought and, frankly, what i thought at the time, was a very innocuous thing. the officer had behaved stupidly. he had, after all, arrested the man on his own front porch, having already ascertained he was who he said he was and it was his house. skip gates is this tall and walks with a cane. he wasn't swinging it at the officer. he wasn't in danger or anything like that and there was no threat to public safety. and nonetheless there was thing -- this big outcry when the president said the officer act stupid he -- stupidly, and then he had to invite them both in for a beer to tamp it down. it was fascinating to me there was such a reaction from so many people. >> the reaction from the country, as i read in your book, because of how they felt certain whites viewed what the president said not as a statement just coming about, well, this is stupid, but almost as a racial identity -- >> as if he were taking sides. >> right. >> and i onceot a -- wrote a column during the election, and i said for president obama to get

i have also served on the advisory committee for over 11 years. basically, i am here representing myself and speaking for the publishing community at large with regards to this new amendment. the only concern that i want to bring with regards to the fines that are going to be imposed on the news rack being seized by non-compliance after a notification is given, it is because of the logistical situation in many areas and locations in the city. there are more racks then would legally fit in one area. many times, when a publisher distributes information out there to correct the violation, after that is done, subsequent publisher distributors come to move the rack that was put in compliance out of compliance. i am proposing that whenever we go out there, we take photographs of the citation been taking care of so that we are not incurring the $250 fee. thank you. supervisor chu: thank you. >> my name is francisco [unintelligible] the clarification given by the dpw was not clear. i would like to go over those issues. number one, if there are so many rack

i would also work to insure that the current residents of t.i. are not displaced by the redevelopment project. and that arrangements are made to account for their return to new units as soon as possible. i would be dedicated to finding solutions to issues such as transportation and congested and the building of new on and off ramps for safety. over the years, i have sat on numerous committees and have taken a lead role as president or chairman in many of them. my experience on these various boards has prepared me to evaluate issues openly and fairly and the work of my fellow board members to make the best decision. if appointed, i would look forward to hearing from constituents and residents about the issues that come before the authority. i care about san francisco, its residents, and its workers, and therefore, would value being part of such a large-scale project that would provide tremendous opportunity for this great city. i'm honored that mayor newsom has put my name forward for this rule on the authority board, and ask for your support. supe
