today i'm at the presidio trust, a treasure within san francisco, because the presidio trust is really a national park in the center of an urban setting. it dates to the very founding of the city. national park. toting me today to talk about this amazing exhibition at presidio habitat is cheryl hanes. can you tell me a little bit about the idea of the presidio habitat? >> succinctly, i have been long involved in the presidio. i was here when it was still a military base in the 1980's. i remember driving down walmart to the golden gate bridge and seeing the military guard at the gate and being utterly fascinated. >> so presidio habitat is an exhibition where you have invited, how many artists to think about the habitat? >> we put together a list of possible participants, local, national, or international, of people who are concerned with environmental concerns, made some sort of contribution to the landscape and conversation we're having here. we said that broke -- proposal requests and we received 25 back. from that 25, we went through and chose tend to realize in the landscape. >> inc

cup on the presidio. part of it evolved into a discussion of the f line into the presidio area, as well as impacting the national maritime museum, which is a separate national park service agency. that was interesting because that conversation stated they are going to try to rush ahead as fast as possible and not have their construction impact america's cup. however, at aspur meeting this week, the america's cup came up, the statement was made, there is no way they are going to do it because it will impact america's cup, so it will happen later. so someone needs to get their comments together on this. i think it is very much in -- up in the air. i am hearing from various people who are supposedly authoritative, in the know, for that. monday, i attended the meeting, here in city hall, at the board of supervisors land use committee, the hearing called by scott wiener, regarding the hpc preservation survey, among other things. the directors spoke, and number of department heads. i thought it was a very good m

they have given us a very good piece of positive news on the presidio parkway, an authorization for up to $592 million in private activity bonds for the project that goes to complement the request that we had made for a loan. this is really a very strong indication about the strength of the project and the level of commitment that the federal government feels that it has with this project. i am not going to repeat the chair's announcement about the funds but i will say that we will continue to advocate in sacramento for the transportation funds and for the distribution of funds according to prop 22 that was approved by voters last november. a significant amount of projects, market street project. we had a workshop a couple of weeks ago, last week actually, that brought more than 100 members of the public. it was a first workshop on the better market sheet project and another one planned for tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and another one tomorrow at noon. good success on the back to work program. 54% of our staff back to work. we are making progress in terms of incorporating stakeholder

looking back from the golden gate bridge to presidio, you are more aware of the park land and less of the roads. and the viaduct will parallel the existing one and to the south and can be built while the existing one remains in operation. and the two bridges there with open space between them and your views constantly change and not aware of the traffic in the opposite direction and notice the views more. and the lanes of course are a foot wider than they are today. and they will be shoulders and if your car is disabled, you can pull off to the edge. and the next area, the tunnel portal will have a view centered on the palace of fine arts and as you come out, you can see alkatrez island and bay. and the next area is about 1,000 feet long. and when you come into one, you can see through the other end. it's almost like driving through a building than through a tunnel. and noise from the roadway will be sheltered. and the traffic will be out of view. >> when you come out of the last sort tunnel and as you look forward, you see the golden dome of the palace of fine arts and what more perf

expenditures, and this represents a few of the larger projects such as the central subway project, the presidio park or project, the other projects on the radio communications systems, the different street improvements and expenditures. the largest amount of expenditures for this service, we anticipate 300 million with the bond issue in 2012. we have always included the potential that issue and we anticipate using this as long as the funding agencies are in need of further projects. we also have personal expenditures, of 3.4%, and there have been no changes to the prior year salaries, in alignment with the cost of living. we have the non-personal expenditures, of $3.2 million of the entire budget, consisting of the operating cost for rent, the legal fees, anything that is needed to maintain the front office. next i have slides for the work program, and since i have already gone through this in the last month, i would like to offer questions for any of the commissioners task, for collaboration or detail on any of the projects. >> i have one question. of the capital project expenditures, what per

the site is located across the street from the sea cliff area right before the entrance to the presidio where this ends and lincoln boulevard begins. on december 11, 1995, there was a sinkhole that damage this property, severely damaged this property and destroy the adjacent property. this photograph shows a portion of the building that was destroyed and damage. between 1995-1998, there were permit applications that were submitted and performed to underpin and support the foundation of the property. on march 23, 1998, a building permit application was approved to restore this back to the original configuration with a one story addition above the garage. in 2004, 2005, and 2008, the owners for issued renewal permits, but have since expired. on june 24, 2008, the first complaint was filed at the department of building and inspection. since then, a total of 10 complaints have been filed against the subject property. on july 3, 2008, the complaint was filed with the planning department. on july 10, 2008, the department of building inspection filed the first notice for building enlargement.

want to show you a live picture of an event that's going to be happening a few hours from now in the presidio in san francisco, this morning. you're looking at a live picture from san francisco's national cemetery. the memorial day ceremony is one of the events that attracting a very large crowd. let's show you some video of last year's event at the presidio, it starts at 10:30 this morning, and includes a parade, a memorial ceremony, and 21 gun salute. in benicia at 10:00 a.m., a memorial ceremony there will include a flyover with military jets from travis air force base. some people here, back out here live, you can see some people kind of running away from this balloon. the wind that is tossing this balloon back and forth, that's part of the reason why this balloon won't be flying. it's going to be stationary, kind of tethered to the ground out here. but it is inflated, much to the delight of a lot of the spectators out here. an interesting thing about hot air balloons, the wind actually can't be any more than 7 or 8 miles per hour. you have to have optimal winds and weather conditions for
