welcome to the "closing bell." i'm maria bartiromo at the new york stock exchange. >> i'm bill griffeth. it's a squeaker here, will it be six for six for the dow, posting best gains for the year. the blue chip average is flirting with the best six-day win streak going back to july of 2010. that would be nice to see, wouldn't it. right now, after a midday rally, we're seeing stocks lose some steam heading into the home stretch. that was led by a lower dip in energy stocks. oil prices fell rather precipitously. we'll talk with the market experts and get strategy from them coming up here in a few minutes. but first a look at where we stand at the moment. the dow, a zigzag day as it tries to follow through on yesterday's gains. right now up nine points on the industrial average at 13,187. the nasdaq has been struggling, despite gains again today for apple. nasdaq down five points at 3,034. and the s&p 500 index, at this hour, is down to 1,392. >> the market lost a lot of its momentum. the big movers this hour, financia

we're watching ohio very, very closely. you can see how close it is right there, by our estimate, once again, mitt romney slightly ahead of rick santorum. let's take a look at idaho right now. we have not projected a winner in idaho even though romney is way ahead of everybody else with 12% of the vote in. romney with 78%, 11% for ron paul, 8% for rick santorum, 3% for newt gingrich. let's go to john king and talk ability ohio. the numbers show santorum slightly ahead, but for viewers just tuning in, we say this, and we say it boldly, and we say it exclusively. romney is really slightly ahead of rick santorum. >> by about 3,000 votes by our count because we're going to show you the numbers here. this is the official count, 78% from hamilton county shows romney with a big lead. we have from dana bash more updated numbers that get us overrateover a 80% where romney got a huge jump. you see a 10,000 edge in the county. we all know that he has a bigger edge by our hamilton county numbers to give him a boost of about 3,000 state

and we saw thi med r we saw a mixed market close with stocks trying to pick themselves up into the closing bell. today's chart of the s&p 500 shows continued selling pressure this morning, but buyers came into the market in the last hour of trading. one sector not coming along for the late afternoon recovery was the financial sector. it was the biggest drag on the market. this financial sector exchange- traded fund fell almost 1%. after the close tonight, the market focus was on research in motion. it makes the once-popular blackberry smart phones, but it has suffered a number of setbac in recent quarters, losi market share to the iphone and android devices. earnings were a penny shy of estimates, when excluding special charges. revenue fell considerably from last year as the number of blackberries it shipped continued falling. a year ago, this stock was over $50. it closed just below $14 tonight before its latest earnings disappointment, and acknowledgment both earnings and revenues will be under pressure this year. rimm's biggest competito ape, saw i shares slide re than 1% from an all-t

it's a very, very close in ohio. we're watching it very, very closely. a lot of people are wondering if this goes on and on and on, could it actually going all the way until the end of august when the republicans will convene their convention in tampa? tonight, tom foreman is taking us on a virtual convention to give us a sense of how the delegate count may play out. >> earlier, we looked at the array of forces, of delegates for each candidates here in our virtual convention floor in tampa. it's easy to see how mitt romney was leading in the delegate count before tonight's votes came in and still far from establishing an insurmountable lead. now let's see how the battlefield is changing this evening. remember, at the end of the night, the delegates are all that matters, and even though it's complicated to figure out precisely how many each candidate is picking up, we can say with confidence this is one of the bigger nights for newt gingrich. we added his new delegates on the left. santorum is adding some, too. he's in the middle with purple. and wins inc

let's get to the closing bell exchange. today, bob pisani at the nyc, eamon javers in the washington, d.c. bureau. what are you seeing this week in terms of what we might see market moving activity as we continue these contests for the election? >> sure hurricane the big thing i'm looking at here, maria, this week, starting today these fed stress tests here in washington. all eyes are on the fed waiting for something as early potentially today, maybe something earlier in your show even, get the metrics from the fed, the measurements by which they judge these banks. remember the 19 big banks subject to the full test and expected to see this go on as an annual exercise in washington. this will be the first real thorough run through we have had under the dodd frank. people have been pushing back sake the adverse scenario in these tests is really, really adverse. if it looks like the banks can't handle it well, don't be that worried, even much worse than what happened in real knit 2008. that is the big focus of attention here t

we have other states closing at the top of the the hour at 8:00 massachusetts closing, and oklahoma closesd tennessee closes. that is right at the top of the hour. we will see if we can make any projections in those three states, but it is a significant development and a win is a win. mitt romney has two wins tonight so far tonight. so it is a significant development. it was fully expected, but anderson cooper, i expect that the mitt romney is excited to win those states. >> well, a win is a win. and for you guys, what is important, ohio? >> ohio and delegate count though, because you can't separate the two. if you are inside of a presidential campaign at this point, you are looking more at the total delegates than what states did you win, because that is what it comes down to, and as we started to talk about attrition, and if you are mitt romney that is how you grind the opponents out of the race by picking up so many delegates that even in a state that you narrowly lost that it is impossible for anybody else to get there. >> and ohio has been a bellwether state for candidates? >> yes, an

we knew it would be close in ohio, and it is. the polls close at 7:30. it is still too close to call. the latest numbers are from hamilton county. those numbers seem to have boosted mitt romney to a slight lead but those are unofficial numbers. right now the official tally shows rick santorum slightly ahead, 38-37. we will keep a close eye on the numbers, as will the candidates. well ohio is the most closely watched, tennessee was also considered a big prize. mitt romney wanted to win in the deep south. it was a virtual dead heat in the volunteer state. but rick santorum ended up with a fairly decisive win 38-28. rick santorum also picked up a win in oklahoma. and he had to say this in tennessee. >> right now, we were going to get at least a couple of gold medals and a whole passel full of silver medals. we can add to iowa missouri, minnesota, colorado and now oklahoma and tennessee. we have given up our jobs. we are living off our savings. we are making a little sacrifice for a very very big goal. that is replacing this president on november of this yea
