i'm jc hayward. thanks for joining us. the school day was disrupted for over a dozen fairfax county schools. it started with an early morning bomb threat before classes began at annandale high school. police, canine units and bomb robots took hours to sweep the school for possible devices. the robots also had to inspect items found in front of the school before police could give the all clear which was after 10:00 a.m. in the meantime parents were wondering exactly what was going on. >> i have three kids in the high school. i just brought them here this morning at 7:08. there was police all over. i say what's going on. they say at least two-hour delay, at least two-hour delay. >> reporter: did they tell yu? >> no -- tell you why? >> no. >> because buses that take students to the high school also go to middle and elementary schools, that meant another 18 schools were affected. parents at the affected schools who are registered for emergency alerts received e- mail and also got voice mails by 9:00 a.m. that threat is still u

jc hayward has the day off. i'm mike hydeck. we begin with news on the metro. the red line was closed for part of the morning after a man was struck and killed by a teenage. investigators believe this unidentified man intentionally put himself in front of the train. once again, however, the white flint station on the red line is open now. >>> french president nicholas sarkozy calls this a national tragedy. a father and three children were gunned down. all schools and religious buildings in france are now being secured. >> reporter: grieving relatives aarrived at the ozar hatorah school as new spread of the shooting. all the children from this school are like my children, in woman said. police say a gunman on a motor bike opened fire just before classes started at the school in the southwest city of tolouse. a rabbi, his two young sons and another child were killed. the prosecutor says he shot at everybody who was near him. children and adults. the children were chased inside the school. investigators are looking into whether the attack is related to two others

jc hayward is off today. we begin with breaking news. a woman is dead after being shot in censton and -- kensington and police are searching for her killer. it happened at the intersection of connecticut and knowles avenue. connecticut is closed in both directions between pliers mill road and knowles. >> reporter: a van pulled up to this intersection and that's when a woman in the passenger seat threw opened the doors are started screaming for help. witnesses say she was covered in blood. that's when the male driver grabbed her, pulled her back inside the van, shot her in the head and then threw her out into the middle of connecticut avenue before speeding off. the victim's body i'm sad to say still in the middle of the street behind this barricade as montgomery county police continue to investigate. this all happened in broad daylight at the tail end of the morning rush. there were dozens of witnesses. in fact, when police arrived, several people were already giving the woman cpr. police took over but it was too late. the woman died on

jc has the day off. >>> we begin with another day of violent weather across the midwest and south. within the past hour, a tornado reportedly touched down in huntsville, alabama. much of the region is prime for the possibility of more tornadoes today. of course some communities are still cleaning up following deadly storms earlier this week. at least 13 people died in tornadoes that flattened communities across four states. meteorologist howard bernstein is keeping a close eye on the storms. howard, what's going on right now? >> things are just getting started. we already have reports of homes destroyed in that area, north of huntsville, northern alabama, not far from newmark, alabama if you know that area at all. the brighter orange, red area, that's a high risk of severe weather. these areas are issued by the storm prediction center out of oklahoma. the atmosphere is juiced to be explosive today and cause a lot of damage and potentially some deaths as well because we're talking about tornadoes, long lasting tornadoes, fast moving tornadoes, large hail also and damaging wind gusts
