for indochina, the monsoon is starting to rev up. we're seeing heavier rain coming in towards thailand and western parts of indochina. that's just going to continue over the next couple of months as we see the monsoon strengthen. let's talk about what's happening in the u.s. and canada. up towards the north, a low pressure system moving along the u.s./canada border. a front associated with it will see thunderstorms and, in fact, those thunderstorms will be popping up down the rockies. up towards canada in the northeast, you could even see some very late snow. about 15 to 25 centimeters is possible. now down in the southwest, conversely, it's going to be very, very warm, hot indeed, and with low humidity and strong winds coming through, that spells fire danger. so critical fire weather in parts of utah as well as nevada and arizona. out towards the east, we're still seeing a lot of thunderstorms and instability for the southeast. this long front that's been stalled out, and is detached to the low in northeastern canada. thunderstorms

this is an area that we talked about called french indochina. back in the world war ii lecture we talked about how the japanese invaded french indochina and there was nothing france could do about it because france had already been knocked out of the war and the january needs moved in and took over. well, now that the war is over, the vietnamese would like to have their own right to determine their nation and they status. this guy wants to do that. that is ho chi minh. he drafts a declaration of independence in 1945 that is modelled after our own united states declaration of independence. if you put the two documents side by side, they are eerily similar. you would think that the united states would support a nation to who wants to be free and independent, self-determination. we don't. why not? we are not really going to support france in this. it's more of ho chi minh's political tendency. he is a communist. as much as we would like to support the independence of a nation, we are not going to support the independence of vietnam under communist

across much of the philippines as well as the indochina peninsula, pop-up thunderstorms will be erupting throughout the next couple of days. in northern thailand, we have a report of 102 millimeters that has fallen and accumulated in this area, and this ongoing showers, sometimes heavy downpours could be creating just triggering some flash flooding situations. talking about flash floods, yesterday in nepal, we had a very bad situation. we have a video coming up from nepal to show you. now this is coming out from a city of pikara. heavy rain and snow melt led to this flash flood in the city. the river overflowed its banks resulting in this intense surge of water as you can see. this led to 13 deaths. many residents say this is the worst flash flood they have ever seen. with the monsoon season set to start in early june, more rains can be expected in the mountainous areas. if we pull back to show you that the conditions are much more stable in and around nepal, this is pikara where the video came out from. you will be seeing scattered showers which is very unwelcome to the area that has be

many cities across indochina and thailand in particular have been seeing temperatures of about 40-degrees plus for the last several days. let's go now to north america. severe outbreaks of weather in pretty much the same place all week. from the great lakes region down through the central plains. we've seen a very stubborn frontal system, lots of low-pressure systems forming over the front. and that has led to some severe storms. it's not going to change into your friday. pretty much the same picture. one of the reasons is we have a big ark of heat coming up across the east. it starts to collide with the cooler air in north. that's when we get the severe systems that usually occur farther to the south. that heat is reaching up into the upper midwest and great lakes region. that is going to continue on friday. out toward the northwest, much cooler system coming in. widespread chilly showers. although the snow will be confined to the mountains of western canada. here are your temperatures then. 12 degrees in vancouver. 12 in seattle also. then you can see where that heat starts to kick in.
