david martin reports from the pentagon that the air force will be flying combat aircraft over bostonto make sure that the airspace is clear the nypd in new york as it always does during a terrorist attack anywhere in the world has stepped up its security in the nation's largest city. and that is ongoing now there is no indication that any other attack is eminent, if indeed this was an attack. we don't have any indication of that whatsoever at this point but security is going up in various places all around the country. the explosions happened a little after 2:00 eastern time, 2:10 at the finish line of the boston marathon of the first unexplosion and about 15 seconds later there was another. that is the smoke clearing from the first explosion and as the company ra plan pans to the left you see the second explosion down the street, about a block away. boston police are telling us two dead, 23 wounded. we've seen men, women and children being taken to ambulances, being taken away in wheelchairs and we are expecting a news conference from the boston news department later this afternoon,

i'm having martin and this is breaking the set so yesterday i woke up to this disturbing headline survey of koch brothers turning focus to newspapers yep a billionaire brothers charles and david koch are looking to expand their corporate dynasty and this time they're targeting the media that's right koch industries and seriously exploring a bid to buy the tribune companies eight regional papers including the l.a. times or the chicago tribune and for those of you who are worried about those images remind you that these two men are the same two men set up to benefit from the controversial keystone pipeline and they're the same two men who have used their cronyism to influence supreme court justices ultimately securing the ruling that made it possible for their company to fully loaded an insane amount of money into politics and now these two men could be buying up the news that we depend on for the facts and polluting it with their ideology let's hope that doesn't happen but for now let's break this up.

martin? >> kristen welker in denver. thanks so much, kristen. >>> i want to bring in our panel now with us from denver. syndicated columnist david serota, in washington clarence page, great columnist from the "chicago tribune." david, if i can start with you, can you explain to your audience why colorado can introduce additional gun safety legislation, why connecticut can ban the sale of magazines that carry more than ten bullets and introduce background checks on all firearm sales, but the house and the senate can only postpone discussion of legislation while the nra picks off senators and congressmen by the day? >> it's a very good question. and i think that the president is going to be making the point that if colorado, a state in the intermountain west, a pro-gun area, can pass the legislation that it passed, then congress should be able to pass the same kind of legislation. at one level he's right. at another level he's got a political problem because the congress has in the house a situation of gerrymandering where many republicans, because they've redrawn the lines, many republicans fear more a primary challenge, a pro-gu
