walk us through, joey, what we can anticipate today. >> sure.interest story, wolf. the emotions the family must be going through. but i think what will happen is we're going to see a criminal complaint filed. there's a couple stages in the criminal process, multiple stages actually, and with the criminal complaint that's where you'll see the charges leveled against them. and i think there will be a wide variety of charges from conspiracy dealing with the agreement that all of them would have had to have engaged in for criminality. there will be issues of aiding and abetting. certainly we'll see the kidnapping charge, we could see a false imprisonment charge, charges stemming from rape or any sexual abuse. and although those charges are on a criminal complaint, i would fully expect some point in the near future for a grand jury to get the case and certainly amend those charges in any way based upon the investigation and what's uncovered as a result. >> i assume that law enforcement has given these three suspects their miranda rights including the

these are questions i put now to criminal defense attorney, hln legal analyst joey jackson. via skype by legal analyst lisa bloom. joey, i'd like to begin with you. i've watched a lot of first appearances in my days as a reporter. this one looked fairly boilerplate to me, but i could see how it could look almost offensive maybe to others watching this process, given the gravity of the crimes he's alleged to have committed, and the fairly quick way he was processed. can you weigh in on that? >> absolutely will. good morning to you. it's a standard proceeding when someone gets arraigned. when it's an arraignment, you're simply apprised of the process you're facing and the process is joined. here we had a criminal complaint. this criminal come plantd listed the char -- complaint listed the char charges. a grand jury will convene and the investigation, of course, continues. we know about the brothers, we know at this point they haven't been arrested in connection with this case or formally charged. that certainly could change. i don't know. it depends on the evidence and informa

here to answer that question hln legal analyst criminal defense attorney joey jackson. michael and i have been talking about this all morning. we have like a million questions for you here. >> wow. >> if castro faces more charges and also could he have acted alone in this? are there potentially other people who they are looking to involve besides the brothers? >> suzanne, what a strange story to begin with, okay. now, understand that this was the first of what could be a many stage process. it's a criminal complaint. and the purpose of that is to initially inform you of what you might be facing. those charges that you outlined, you and michael outlined there are initially what he's facing. he went to court on the arraignment of course you're informed as a defendant this is what you're facing, the judge sets bail, which he did at $8 million, $2 million per count. after this there's a long way to go. as to the question of what the charges can be, of course that will pertain to the investigation and what it uncovers. we've already learned that there's been some beating of

joey, is that enough?nough when you are supposed to be investigating something to knock on a door and then walk away? should they have done more? >> police have to walk a delicate balance because everybody has rights, and police certainly could have done morning ut but you can't go knocking people's doors down because neighbors say there's some kind of criminal at. police do what they can do, and hindsight, of course, is 2020. we expect police to be thorough and do what they can to unearth any types of crime, but i'm loathe to blame them in this case because certainly i know these girls who have been abducted. they were fearful for their lives. they were fearful to do anything that would bring attention to them because they could be harmed, ashleigh. >> glenda, i want to just re-introduce that jaycee dugard case. there were so many elements of it as well. she was kidnapped and held captive in a home for 18 years. she had two children in that home. she got a $20 million settlement in response to the allegat

joey, let me go to you as an objective legal voice, because we know how the judge ruled.ourt ruling putting a pause on that and allowing this child, this attacker to be in another school. what do you make of this? >> what happens in any scenario is courts have to balance equities and, of course, the florida constitution speaks to the issue of public education. the united states constitution does not and historically has not spoken to that because we know education is a localized issue. however what a court has to do is balance the violent and vicious propensities of a student versus the need for that student to get an education and not harm other people. how this plays out, of course, as we know, a judge felt it appropriate to ban this student from the whole county. and then, of course, a judge stepped in and said, no, you can't do that, but it would be appropriate, i guess, to ban her from the school. i guess the ultimate objective that students are educated, they're educated in an environment where they can learn, that they're not subject to other people's vicious prope
