temperatures in the 70s in san jose. 65 in san francisco and 72 in oakland.now it's very interesting that we've got nothing but sunshine. you need the sun glasses for your golden gate bridge drive this evening. but the temperature is still cool. and mostly sunny skies in san jose. the low clouds offshore starting to break up a little bit. you can see from our temperatures right now, these reflect the sea breeze quite strong. mid-80s at the warmest out towards fairfield as the winds come out of the west at 18. these should back off about 15%. that's going to allow our temperatures to warm up to more typical summer like levels the next couple days. rain continues to fire up in the pacific northwest. and some tropical moisture coming up out of southern california should stay to the east of the bay area. during the day tomorrow these plumes of moisture staying away from us as high pressure nudges in across the central coast. one of the things you'll notice here is you should not see as much cloud cover inland as we get to the start of the day tomorrow. so tempera

streets are now open in downtown san jose. a man holding a knife to his own neck talked to police for hours overnight forcing the closure of ten city streets in the area of santa clara street between 11th and 13th. that standoff was going on just about a mile from the scene of a deadly shooting that happened on saturday in downtown san jose. a man on a bike was shot and killed in a parking lot at third and julian streets and a surveillance camera captured it all. today in the bay's bob redell joins us live at san jose police headquarters with details into the investigation. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. we want to show you an edited version of the surveillance tape. perhaps you can help police here at headquarters in san jose find the suspected gunmen. again, as i mentioned, you'll only see the moments before and the moments after this man was shot. this is from a surveillance camera mounted at an apartment complex across from a parking lot at third and julian streets. you'll see the victim riding in on

the south bay, firefighters this morning looking into the cause of an overnight apartment fire in san jose. this one started in an apartment building on waterbury court near williams and san thomas expressway. crews had to call in backup to keep the fire from spreading. the red cross says at least 16 people were forced from their homes including at least three children. we are happy to report nobody was hurt. the cause of the fire still remains under investigation. >>> a new way to fight crime in san jose. san jose police department deployed its new gang suppression unit overnight for the first time as part of the effort to reduce violent crimes and increase police presence and visibility in san jose. we're told the unit will be deployed during peak hours, seven days a week. the plan is supposed to be evaluated at the end of the summer to see if the program is working and whether it should continue. >>> san jose police are trying to figure out if gangs played a part in the death of a 19-year-old woman over the weekend. police say kimberly joyce estrada was killed when someone opened fire o

damian, why do you think we need that at san jose state?well, to kind of backtrack a little bit, when i first started there at san jose state as a grad student there really wasn't anything. other than the g.i. bill certifying official. and then we kind of started -- i felt lost there. and then we kind of started putting together different resources. there was a veteran student organization that was started in 2009. more recently i transitioned out of school and i worked a job with the v.a. on campus where i provided services to vets on campus. part of my job is to pull in more resources for vets. but i think it's key for veterans to be successful as students, and to make that transition from the military world back into the civilian world as positive as possible and as fluidly as possible. and it's a long process. so i think having those tools in place really helped to kind of expedite that and to make it a much better transition than if they just showed up back in the civilian world and no real direction on where to go. so these folks have

"today in the bay's" arturo santiago live in the south bay with what investigators are currently looking for. >> reporter: good morning, jon. this morning the chp is still asking for help from the public in finding the driver who was involved in that hit and run. investigators say on saturday night someone hit and killed a man who was walking on alum rock avenue east of harriet avenue in san jose. some people saw a pickup truck leaving the scene heading north on pick ford avenue. the description is that the truck is a late model ford pickup, white or beige in colors with oversized tires and a red stripe on the hood. there would also be front end damage. traffic is not particularly heavy in the area and police are trying to find out more information about the victim. >> we have no description of the driver as it was 8:45 at n

. >>> we're also following developing news out of san jose tonight. police have arrested a man for a shooting saturday that left a san jose state university student dead. investigators say an officer arrested 23-year-old johnny lozano for violating his parole by carrying a loaded weapon. after officer checked the description of the shooter in saturday's murder this, man was charged for that killing. 19-year-old nursing student kimberly chico was shot to death while in the passenger seat of a car in downtown san jose early saturday morning. she was planning to return to classes later this month. her killing marks san jose's 30th homicide of the year. >>> it's been a tense day in the quiet suburbs of sunnyvale. a neighborhood was shut down because of a swat team standoff. this happened on cochella avenue near san miguel elementary school in sunnyvale. ultimately two people were found dead inside of a home. nbc bay area's marian favro joins us at the scene of the crime with the details. marion, are the streets still shut down where you are? >> reporter:
