i want to show you the south bay. you can see lots of rainfall coming all the way in south of 92 all the way into the south bay and yeah, the east shore, san leandro. a lot of rain coming in at once. let me show you what to expect. we stop the clock at 9:00 a.m. showers lightening up. except for in the south bay. by noon looking good. we have another wave of moisture on the way. not until tonight. we'll stay mostly dry. good news for those who want to get oum safely before this next wave. between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and then we'll be out of the woods throughout the second of ha of the day. so split wound ahead. better conditions on the way for you on sunday. you got to work to get to the weekend. mike knows it's going to be rough getting there. good morning to you. >> yes. plenty of work getting there. look toward the bay bridge, we had a couple of minutes where things would clear and the water is back. now we do have wet roads to contend with. the bay bridge toll plaza, puddling, ponding. 88 the camera shakes, gu

the south totals were a lot less. anywhere from one inch to two inches in concord. the reason we had so much less in the south bayrain shadows set up. get the moisture piling in. all that rain gets sweeped out across the mountains. there's not too much left here once it makes it over. let's focus on the good in napa. over two months of rain in four days. that's now bumped up our average to 41% of average. in february, we should have over five inches. january and february we should have over 10. we picked up 11.3. great news there. we're tracking another storm system. we'll have more on that coming up. >> our micro climate in full effect. this is the fulsom reservoir. it went up 18 feet in the last several days. about two hours away in the south bay deer are grazing where the water should be . chris sanchez continues our coverage. >> reporter: it was enough to mess up your car wash and your hair but not your entire weekend plans. we did talk with the spokesman for the santa clara water district who said he was super jealous as he watched the reservoir levels go up in the north bay and see the snow that terry showe

event for the south bay. by 5:00, 7:00 tomorrow evening, notice how the showers shut down and the system heads off to the east monday. starting from now, through the end of the day tomorrow, and into monday, north bay already five, six inches and counting, could see another 2 1/2 inches around sonoma. san jose a quarter inch to half inch in some spots. maybe another inch or two in the santa cruz mountains. that should feed into our reservoirs in the south bay. that will be good news in terms of the rainfall. snow potential through the next 24 hours should add even more to the totals we've seen since thursday. approaching four feet of snow at sugar bowl. going back to thursday. if you look at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, come next weekend, especially we'll see another chance of a good snow producing storm, may actually see another one coming in here on wednesday for the north bare and areas north of interstate 80. head to the high country, we do think we'll probably see another one to two

i want to start in the south bay where we're getting hit the hardest. south of 92 heavy downpours coming through san jose getting hit hard now. and that will continue throughout the next hour potentially hour and a half. we're getting pretty brief heavy downpours through danville, we're watching that moving through quickly. watch out for dangerous conditions. 580 and 680 come together we'll get full details in a moment. i want to give you an idea of what's happening in the north bay. and you can see here showers are winding down. north bay, we have the potential for four to five inches of additional rainfall as we head throughout the next 72 hours. a lot to go over this morning. before that long-range forecast as promised here is mike inouye. >> good morning. we'll focus on the now for the east shore freeway. looks like a soupy shot. wet roads around the maze. approaching the berkeley curve and slow drive in both directions. look at the maps. talking about this area with the blue that is soupy around the maze and a crash west 80 now reports three of your

enjoy it while it lasts. 72 in the east bay, san francisco 62, 65 degrees in the north bay and 70 degrees is the forecasted high in the south bay. so we've got a series of storm systems on the way to the bay area. the first arrives tomorrow. in addition to the very heavy rainfall we're talking about winds gusting in excess of 40 miles per hour. so this could do damage. especially at the higher terrain where we lack that friction. the winds just whip. as we head throughout friday, our next storm system comes through and this is the big game changer. this one could provide an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall on top of what we accumulate on wednesday. then we've got a third storm system coming in as we head through sunday and monday. on and off shower activity. you want to plan on indoor activities for this weekend. and just to give you a taste of what we're expecting as far as your accumulations go, take a look at this. if you're not by your television screen come on down for a moment. look at this. from the first system, 2.25 inches in the east bay as we combine both systems over 3 inches of rainfall in the south bay. th

the north bay has been hit the hardest. the wind advisory continues until 10:00. there is flooding to the souththern upon tray bay to the national for evidence through 4:00 on saturday morning. that is the area that needs the rain the most but they are getting too much and the coast ising to be rather filled with squalls with breakers up to 20'. rip occur ends -- rip currents through 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. >> now we continue with nick in the mouth bay with problems facing drivers. you have done a great job tweeting how the driver got out safely. >> a we have noticed is drivers have to be careful as they use the roads. we are 87 southbound beyond san jose international airport and i want you to notice the track signal is warning you of a hazard. we shot this video a little while ago and you can see there standing water tawas -- was a problem and the car want through it although the cones were in place warning the drivers. the car that is stalled in the sanding water you will see why the cones were installed. it happened because of the rain in the south bay. standing water presented a hazard fo

the bay. in the south bay in san jose just got cloudy skies. a few light showers at times, but all this about to change as we get into the afternoon. speaking of the north bay, we have these flash flood watches up through 3:00 this afternoon for briefly heavy periods of rain which may cause localized flooding along creeks and streams. we could see a repeat into theel afternoon in the north bay which is where the bull's-eye is on the radar. down towards san rafael and just ort north side of the golden gate bridge you can see that heavy rain coming in from the west and moving across the peninsula within the next ten minutes or so. san jose, still some light rain but all of this is going to change as this front, which has been hung up across the north bay, dropping as much as 14 inches of rain at mt. tam since thursday. that line will drop to the south with this next wave coming through for the afternoon. coming up we'll let you know how much rain we expect and how much snow has fallen in the sierra. i'll have a look at that in a few minutes. >>> s

i want to show you what we expect here in the south bay. this is where we're going to get hit the hardest by the next system. we accumulated over three inches of rainfall in los gatos yesterday, why we bring in anthony slaughter live for us this morning. anthony, tell me about what it look likes out there. have you seen a lot of people having problems getting through the slick conditions? and tell me about that lightning as well. how you doing? >> reporter: well, first of all i've got my hoody as you mentioned. and as you mentioned the rain let up a lit le. but it's very quiet. seems as though los gatos is one of those sleepy towns. nonetheless, as you mentioned we had heavy rain overnight and we're out here now because we had gusty winds and we're on storm watch because as you know, with all of that rain, any little wind could bring trees down. we're keeping an eye on things, so far so good. winds are calm where we're at now and downtown los gatos, but we'll continue to track that, the real big thing to make note of as you're telling folk,

pg&e says more than -- there are over 2000 outages in the north bay. 458 outages in the east bay, 125 outages in the south bay. officials have not said if the outages are weather-related. >>> a sonoma county road closed this morning after being washed out by heavy rain. a landslide washed away a huge section of fort ross road on saturday morning. it buried a truck and forced people to leave one home in the area. >> yeah, the house has exhibited no damage at this point. the slide is still about 100 feet away but if it decides to turn, it could very well take the house with it. >> the road is closed indefinitely and officials say that drivers should avoid that area if at all possible. >>> heavy rain also sent a tree crashing down on phone lines near forestville. there's a look at the damage. the tree took out a fence and a utility pole on oak wild lane before it also blocked the road there. >>> we would like to see what's going in your community so be sure to send us photos as other viewers have, taking a look at some of the flooding damage, send us to photos at breaking news at kron4.com. you can stay up t

the southbound side moving into the south bay. e map, the peninsula here moving smoothly between san francisco and the south bay. 101 and 280, moving without any problem. we'll talk about the south bay as we have northbound routes showing a build. the first burst for 101. 87 shows slowing southbound but that's down to 60 miles per hour. could be more folks hitting the road. we do have an issue in mountain view north 85 at evelyn, reports of a four or five-vehicle crash and a traffic break. it cleared up so looks like everything should be off to the shoulder. i'll wait for the confirmation. also in the south bay we have hills, highway 9 and 35 reports of one tree down here, chp wanted you to know. we want you to know about this. highway 35 at highway 84 wood side that's near the restaurant. sounds like there are phone wires an issue for traffic. it's affecting both sides of the road. peninsula not a problem. we showed you how clear it was and that's good stuff. in the east bay, the tri-valley, typical build, nothing unexpected for l

the focus is south. heavy rainfall towards half moon bay and further to the south now we are seeing that into san mateo, san jose getting hit with some heavier amounts of rainfall. a band of heavy rain also sliding into parts of the east bay so heaviest rain this morning and things then taper off. half inch to an inch of rain so far and there's still more to come. by the afternoon, though, we may catch a couple of sunny breaks as things turn to scattered light showers and then possible showers mainly to the north on friday. the rest of it just passing clouds. but more heavy rainfall expected for the weekend. in fact that weekend storm could be something special. the storm system will drive by this morning and taper off and set itself up but not moving onshore until we get into saturday and sunday. so with that in mind, you heading to the high country? bring the chains. three to five inches expected today. winter weather advisories up there through tonight. but likely to see feet of snow as we are going to see a strong system on the weekend. here it is now moving through the bay area sliding by. once it

the south bay it is clear but in the santa cruz mountains where you have scattered showers so you may have sprinkles to light rain and we still have some of the rain moving through the north bay and the rest of us are sporadic coverage. upextreme, there is the break for new. the next system is quickly on the heels and it will move in. you can see how gusty the winds are. we look across the bay bridge from emeryville: light showers will taper throughout the day. heavy rain, windy. thunder overnight. that will taper to scattered showers that lasts through saturday. sunday is still locking dry. a few thunderstorms last note. a break here. could see sunshine in the afternoon. you can see soot -- see another wall of water. urban flooding is a possible with brief heavy rain in the commute. wind damage, absolutely. the soil is saturated. we have stressed trees from the drought. that could be a possibility. with trees coming down and power outages developing. at 7:00, you request see the clouds returning ahead of the front. by 10:00, widespread light showers developing. look what happens afte

there is the south bay. typical through the area, 87 and 280 showing a big slowdown with the volume. not a big deal as far as tri-valley. some mild slowing and no problems tomorrow as far as low clouds but again, slicker conditions, watch getting off at freeway speed. overnight wind advisories and holding them for the high rise. hold on tight fwhout problems for drive arers. they're out of lanes but two in the area may be a quicker transition so keep that in mind. slowing over from the airport to 280. we'll give you a live look. oakland, soupy conditions, a little slowing past the coliseum. the bay bridge toll plaza has the standard backup out of the maze. >> and the slowing conditions continue on southbound 101 near morgan hill. we're telling you about it because it's one of our top stories. crews say it could take a couple more hours before they open any of the lanes near tenant. a tanker carrying gasoline overturned spilling nearly 4,000 gallons of gasoline. hazmat crews are trying to clean up the mess. 14

. >>> good morning, the breaking news is on 101 in the south bay. >>> it affects drivers who use 101 headed to southern california. a tanker truck accident shut down all southbound slaves through morgan hill. matt? >>> we have a closer look at the accident scene on 101. you can see the fuel tanker is overturned on the southbound side and the work now for firefighters and crews is to get the fuel out of the tanker and into the containers to take away from the scene. it doesn't appear they have started doing that. a major problem for firefighters and those living in the area is the strong smell of the fuel. c.h.p. tells us why. >> the tanker just picked up a load of regular gasoline approximately 8,000 gallons and unknown amount of gallons spilled we. approximately 4,000 gallons spilled. >> morgan hill police officer told me that he her there were homes evacuated in the area next to the southbound side of 101. a woman said she was evacuated from her home. the cleanup could take several hours. you can see it is a big mess. we have a lot of emergency crews on the scene. we will keep you u

the way to the bay area. a lot of this is going to slam the south bay. , i'm focusing in south of the golden gate bridge and the next one comes in and that one is going to hammer the north bay. everybody has that potential for flooding. but from the first system, focusing on areas to the south. more specific, to the south of highway 92. that's where we're expecting heavier rainfall. not a lot in san francisco or the north bay until we hit late saturday into sunday. here what happens's happening out in the atmosphere. this is the pineapple express. it's a robust and persistent plume of moisture that extends into the western pacific this timing of year. as the storm systems ride in from the gulf of alaska they tap in, connecting with na atmospheric river and that means we are going to get dumped on. what i like to call the weather game changer. now, the forecast models agree with me. look at this. see that tap developing. organizing. stop the clock on saturday, and that atmospheric river pumping in rainfall into the bay area. so, i'll tell you who could see

they needed rainfall you needed it in the south bay but did not receive it. this jug here completely full would be normal rainfall for the north bay from beginning of last year, beginning of 2013. this tiny guy is all the rain we have received until this past weekend. we will add to that and this water bottle here, matter one is the rain -- smaller one is the rain we got over the last weekend. if you add these two together we are nowhere close to normal. we want to be here instead we are here. that is better than where we were, but a long way to go. >>> good samaritans helped this guy who fell into the contra costa canal today. the contra costa times, said men threw him a stick to keep him from floating away. he was taken to hospital with minor injuries. >>> in san jose investigators are trying to figure out what caused the roof to cave in at a vacant building. it happened around 5:00 p.m. at an industrial avenue. it is in the process of being sold. investigators are looking into the possibility it was intentionally damaged. >>> cal trans has explaining to do.
