harris-perry. in the wake of the michael brown shooting in ferguson, missouri, and other police killings of black peopley policing. president obama on thursday took a step towards that goal by signing an executive order creating the task force on 21st century policing. the task force is chaired by charles ramsey and lori robinson, a george mason criminology professor. that announcement came at a week with a stark reminder from cleveland, ohio, of how far the relationships still have to go and how police unions factor in. in police custody, died just a few hours later on november 13th. and 12-year-old tamir rice, who was in possession of pellet gone was shot and killed by a police officer on november 22nd. activists from ferguson have joined the rice and anderson families in cleveland for a weekend of resistance, which began with a rally this morning at the recreation center near where tamir was fatally shot. one protest last weekend at cleveland's nfl stadium wrinkled the head of the city's police union. cleveland browns wide receiver andrew hawkins wore a shirt over his jersey, noting two recent shooti

harris faulkner in for shepard smith. it happened in berkeley, missouri. unlike the shooting of michael brown, who was not armed, police say the suspect in this case, armed and aimed a gun right at the officer. still, that didn't stop angry protesters from storming the scene and things got crazy pretty quickly. protesters tossing fireworks and bricks at police. and here's how we're told it all started. an officer was investigating a theft when one of the men he was questioning pulled out a gun. surveillance video shows the confrontation. it's a bit grainy here, but those are the suspects there in the circle next to the police car. the video freezes when one of the men raises his arm at the officer. berkeley's mayor says the surveillance video makes it very clear that the officer acted in self-defense. >> i had the opportunity last evening to review the video of the incident and what i saw in this incident is not what people portray. this is not a policeman in the city of berkeley going out and, as we say, you know, black lives matter. >> the city is important because as the mayor says y

harry reid may now have a pretty big problem of his own on his left. >> michael, do you think that we're going to see -- the governor points out that the issue of wall street getting away with being able to bending the law in ways that ordinary citizens can't and financial regulation being eroded in the cromnibus, do you think that this populist strain of the tea party returns now that there are champions for it on the left and it feels like in this particular moment there's more wind in the sails of that discussion? >> i think it is. i think what we're going to see now that republicans are in charge and democrats are clearly as frustrated as republicans having not been able to do much the last couple of years, you're going to have the wings be against the center. my guess is the result on most issues next year is the center, who wants to get stuff done working very closely with all the varying lobbying groups triumphs over the edges on both the conservative and the liberal side. in part because the edges aren't as well coordinated with each other and in part because on a lot of these is

michael brown cannot be reformed ." he was at last night protest, as so many were. we want to start with harry siegel. part of the video that has not been seen as much. we have seen over and over again the horror of eric garner being taken down in that chokehold by the police department and piled on by these officers in staten island on the sidewalk. but as you write about in your column on wednesday, it is the second video that made me cry. not the one where officer pantaleo chokes him for 15 seconds before smashing his head into the sidewalk as others held him down come in lowering -- it ignoring his pleas. it is the video shot minutes later as garner lies dying among men and women in uniform, who do not give half a day and, which broke me down. he goes on to describe the second video that shows garner laying unresponsive on the sidewalk after he was put in a chokehold, as police and medics do nothing to help him. eventually they lift his body onto a stretcher and then he describes this scene in the video where onlookers question the officers. listen closely. >> why is nobody doing cpr? he is breath

or not people want to admit it, whether or not harry wants to admit it, when you look at all of these cases we've been talking about, you hear that michael brown is described as demonic. trayvon martin was so aggressive. he was using the concrete as a weapon. you hear that tamir rice looked like an older kid because he was 5'8" and 190 pounds. guess what? so was my son. you met him, anderson. he's not aggressive. the threat is always the same. that these boys, these men are aggressive and they're demonic and giant and i think there are a lot of great officers but when they go into the field and police in african-american communities, they are more apt to decide that these kids are threatening and until we start to admit and recognize that there is a problem of implicit bias, we are not going to go anywhere. we'll be covering these stories until the end of time. >> is that because of race or because they were operating in a community with a high crime community and therefore more on their guard? >> i think that it is because of race. i think it's because of bias. to be sure, there are plenty of white kids, anderson, there are shoplifting
