>> here in mexico city we are in the heart of the city and seeing thousands of people turn out. if you look at the long line of protesters for the past two hours they have been making their way from a gathering spot on the main avenue in mexico city, and heading to the main plaza. this turn out is a little different in character than previous protests in which we have seen raw anger and passion. what we are seeing here is more organised group, different unions of workers, electrical workers, workers from telephone companies. but you are seeing solidarity with the students and family members. this is the biggest crisis to hit the president since he took office. what we see four months on is it generating thousands to come out into the streets and protest. >> there is a growing doubt and skepticism about the government's accounts here. tell us why? >> well there has been different stories coming out. different reports that cast a lot of doubt on the official storiment the official story from the attorney-general is that a gang of criminals received the students from local police f

on the east coast and 12 noon in mexico city. an explosion right outside amaternity and children's hospital. we're hearing a gas tanker was behind that blast. the sheer force of it bringing down a third of the building. we've confirmed at least seven people dead more than half of those of children. another 20 people already hurt mostly by flying debris. joining me on the phone from mexico michael o boyle, correspondent for reuters. how many people are you hearing could still be inside the home and potentially at risk? >> we are not entirely sure of that. one city official has said 100 people were in the hospital at the time of the blast. now about 60 people have been accounted for, including about 52 women and children who were evacuated immediately after the blast and plus the seven who have been reported dead. but again, we're still trying to figure out how many people were inside at the time. >> are you hearing anything from your sources about the potential cause of the explosion? >> yeah it appears to be and what officials ha

the hospital is located on the southwest side of mexico city and was part of the city government's health care system. rescue workers flocked to the scene of the blast to free anyone buried underneath the rubble and debris. dozens of women and children were evacuated, some with minor injuries. others are believed to be trapped inside. the number of people didn't make it out alive. a gas truck was fueling the 40789's tanks when a leak from the truck's hose ignited, causing the explosion. in addition to leveling parts of the hospital the explosion was strong enough to blow out windows of neighboring homes. >> translator: it was a very strong explosion, and all the house's windows blew out. i found out it was a pipe taking gas to the hospital. >> reporter: the mexican president expressed his sadness and solidarity with those who were injured. as rescue workers continue to comb through what is left of the hospital. >>> now to some news out of egypt. a group pledging allegiance to isis is claiming responsibility for deadly attacks in the sinai peninsula. at least 26 people were killed and doze

it is in mexico city.our because as i mentioned information is fluid. local officials on the ground telling us that one of the hoses supplying gas to the hospital burst and then exploded. you mentioned that tanker truck. we've seen that in a number of reports. it is entirely possible that truck was making a fuel delivery to the hospital and one of the hoses burst and exploded. at least 54 people have been injured here. 22 children and 32 adults. we know that two people reportedly have died. there are also reports coming into us that some children may be possibly trapped in all of the debris that you see there from those aerial pictures because this was such a large explosion. you can make out from these images that 30 to 40% of the total hospital structure local officials on the ground estimate was damaged and much of it has collapsed. there is very much a search-and-rescue mission underway right now. folks on the ground say there is concern remaining portion of that hospital, makes it very dangerous for t
