the overpass was in the process of being removed interstate 75 north of downtown cincinnati.t was around 10:30 the overpass collapsed injuring a truck driver slammed his rig into the wreckage. however a construction worker was killed his body buried for several hours before being freed around 3:30 this morning after crews used air bags to lift the wreckage offer of them. that victim's name not being released at the time. homicide detectives are out here right now taking pictures and collecting evidence that has been ruled for industrial accidents. it is important to note the work was as scheduled. the removal of the over pass expected to take the rest of the week. we don't know how much has been completed or what may have compromised the integrity of the over pass. that is something investigators will be asking as well. initially officials told us the road would be reopened within 48-hours. it has been changed to indefinitely. how much debris and how much work still needs to be done. heather and ainsley back to you. >> enjoy it while it lasts. low gas prices might soon begin

we see ice that forms under the bridges and overpasses. and this is a problem spot along the vine street expressway i-76. you get the water that leaks through and the icicles form on the underside. here's what it looked like while we were going down 76 this weekend. a few icicles were hanging down from above. i'm told this is a big concern for penndot crews and they come out as needed to knock these down. they drive a truck through to knock the ice down with a full head of a truck. the last time they did this was friday night into saturday morning along i-95 near penn's landing. that's another spot they focus on. the problem is how quickly these form with temperatures dipping below freezing. how important is this measure? >> well, it's very important. it's a safety -- it is very important from a safety standpoint because you don't want anything hanging above your highway. so we want to get the icicles down as soon as we can. >> reporter: coming up at 6:00 we have video of a potentially dangerous situation along a major road in our area. ic

an overpass on a busy highway in ohio came crashing down overnight.t one person, a construction worker, is dead. erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center and she's got more on the tragedy. good morning, erin. >> good morning, tam. a bizarre and tragic accident. this happened on the busy interstate of 75 near the downtown area of cincinnati around 10:30 last night. police are calling this a workplace accident. unfortunately as you said one of the construction workers on the site lost his life. now, apparently crews were taking down an old bridge when something went terribly wrong. fire officials say the tractor-trailer involved struck a collapsed section as the bridge hit the ground. now, the driver of that big rig escaped with just minor injuries. it's just incredible. as you take a look at the accident scene here. unfortunately as we said, though, that construction worker was killed. right now the city is working with the department of transportation to figure out how this happened. >> it's going have to be determined by some level of investigati

tonight from cincinnati where a highway overpass collapsed this evening. one construction worker was killed when that overpass came down at about 10:30 local time. a tractor trailer slammed into the rubble injurying the driver. the over pass was on interstate 75 which is now closed indefinitely. cincinnati fire officials say the collapse was related to work being done on that overpass. >>> new at 10:00, the national park service today waived the admission fee at muir woods. we just saw dozens of visitors enjoying the majestic redwoods. 4,500 people came to the park today. >> it's to honor martin luther king and we don't have too many of these free days so i think it's very special that the park service decided that this would be one of them. >> reporter: parking was a bit of a challenge and there was some concern that road work in the area would cause traffic problems but in the end everyone seemed to get in and out of the area smoothly. the next free day will be over the president's day weekend february 14th through the 16th. >>> the latest news from the
