alexander santiago-gonzales escaped last night. tonight there are troubling details about the crimes he committed and the risk he poses to the public. nbc bay area's robert honda is in watsonville this evening. robert, he's linked to a drug cartel and is considered dangerous. >> reporter: well that's right. there is a lot of concern here in santa cruz county because this was once the home area for santiago-gonzales, and so law enforcement is on heightened alert for this man on the run. now, again, this is a picture of 26-year-old alexander santiago-gonzales, who had been serving time in the county jail since july on a u.s. marshal hold for drug trafficking and possession of a firearm. as we've been reporting, santiago-gonzales escaped from a deputy while taking out the trash as part of his inmate duties. now, despite an extensive search in the area santiago-gonzales is still at large. a santa cruz county commander, mario sule who helped arrest him at a pescadero residence, told me the escape has people worried. >> concern. obviousl
