obviously the other area long been conjectured is apple tv. if you look at the categories that fit the brand of apple and the expertise of apple, this and tv are the kind of two most obvious ones. >> what about the car? that is a captive audience. that is an ecosystem. that too seems to be -- all beit for dashboard. >> yeah. well, the thing to remember about cars is the volume of cars is not that great. when you're in the smartphone business, you're literally in the billions. new car sales is in the millions. so it's a very different category. obviously it costs a lot more money, but then you have these incumbents to deal with who move even slower than the mobile carriers did. cutting those deals and getting control of the new operating system in a car, that's a pretty tall order. i don't think it's impossible, but it's pretty complicated. i wonder what the share that apple gets out of it is is going to be. the smartphone industry, they're taking almost all of the profit of the entire industry. how do they make that sale to car manufacturers? >>

if you look at the s&p it is dependent on apple. you look at a chart on apple right now, we're overbought. we're basically overbought back in november. if you look at us overbought now, we do the same thing in november, we probably come into the 120 range in apple. not the end of the world by any stretch of the manual nation. we recovered 8%. so we were down 11% from that overbought status but recovered 8%. that puts us up above 140. i'm staying along apple. i don't think the large portion of this market is going to sell off dramatically. i think you're going to have some room, but i do think maybe you want to lock in. if you're a day trader, i think you could lock in profits here. if you're a long-term investors, i think you stay along the market and stay along apple. >> or if you -- you still think there's room to run. >> i think there's a lot of room to run. i want to go back to what warren buffett said. what he was saying is the best value stock is a growth stock at a good price. that's all he was saying. i like that too. >> the

alix: if apple was added to the dow and stead of at&t, the dow would have had a much bigger rally. t mean apple is significant? >> some of our team did the numbers and if i were to play mr. spock, i would say it's illogical we even have a dow jones industrial average. obviously that to know money is an smart -- is benchmarked. but we are not broken. we are humans and whether it nostalgia or half, there is still this tendency to look at the dow. even wants -- they will talk about the dow even know they haven't done a study in 20 years. whether you are main street or wealth treat, there's a sentimental connection to it. if it were to bring the dow much higher, there's no logic, but they do catch people's attention. it's something people would take note of. >> and trying to financially engineered their stocks how long can they continue something like that? >> that's a great question because they did do the stock split to put it right in that spot and perhaps be included in the dow. they have been aggressively repurchasing their own shares in the magnitudes of ilion's of dollars. they a

apple only trades positively 55.5% of the time. so, you're not too bad off if you bought it now. >> right. >> yeah. >> yeah. and, you know, the apple wautch he touched on that but went to different spots of what he's convinced about why apple is going to work. one of the areas he didn't bring up was the potential for streaming and sol of that they talked about. >> the tv market. there are all kinds of catalysts. not just financial engineering. everybody likes to talk about these different things. the margin thing is a big issue as well. >> karen? >> i wouldn't be -- i wouldn't attempt to trade around the announcement or the launch, rather, just to see the numbers. you have to know what sentiment is. it's hard to get a sense for exactly what people think the numbers are going to be. to beat that. if you're going to be long, be long. >> tim says -- he says jim cramer says it all the time, you don't trade the stock, you own the stock. that's been the right way to play it now for a long time. there's no reason to believe that's not going to continue. >>> time for p

matt: what do you think would have happened if apple had been chosen for the dow in 2008? hart this morning. it is shocking if you look at the divergence. if you added apple in february 2008, you can see what would have happened. it soared to over 700 before it would have slipped. it makes you wonder about the rest of the dow. julie: people wonder about the dow all the time. matt: i only wonder about the dow occasionally. that was more when i was a kid. julie: this is very hypothetical. it talks about maybe bank of america would not have come out at the same time. what apple have split its shares earlier? it is a fun exercise. alex: it is like the butterfly effect at this point. would carl icahn have made the same stinky made? would we'll be walking around with samsung devices instead of apple? matt: no. that's the main reason apple is getting in now. if what happens to apple in terms of this partnership? >> you know i'm not sure that the move of apple splitting the stock back in last year 7 for 1, wasn't a set up to get in there. i'm sure there was some knowledge that visa might be doing this. you know i don't think it's as much of a push for the market here, but, you know, apple is the biggest company in the world. i have got my iphone sitting here next to me but, you know, in all truthfulness that's about all they really sell these days. this watch thing looks like it might be a disappointment and we're lightening up on the tech stocks here. this is not something that i think is bullish long term for apple. it's just one of those things trying to get attention i think for the dow. >> all the time i wonder as well when people about the replacement value it's going to have and the way it drives the market from here or moves the dow, as eric was saying earlier, it's 19% technology currently. going down to 17% in the dow. shouldn't it
