dot tested for the next three years. meanwhile the dot will keep stats on accidents to see if all plows will be outfitted in years to come. lukas people usually drink beey juce for its nutrients, but in the city of norfolk they'll be using the liquid for their roads this winter abc9's bria bell visited norfolk's city street and she found out how beet juice helps keep roads safer during in norfolk, if you experience icey or snowy roads with temperatures around or below 25 degrees, it won't be long until you see trucks spraying the streets with beet juice. according to norfolk, beet juice has been proven to work better than brine alone,.. by mixing the two, which helps in trying to keep the roads ice free. so effective, that the city bumped up its beet juice tank from 5,000 to 10,000 gallons in order to meet the city's demand. "on the 5,000 gallon tank, when it gogo ar empty, i would have to wait for i ito get down to o 000 gallons or less before i could order a refill and with this it allows more flexiblity to have more of a reserve on hand," said miller. the beet juice mixture is not only better for drivers, but the enviroment, as less salt is applied to norfolk's streets which means less road damage in the long run. "we find out that we use less salt so we don't have to go back and retreat and do some of thehe roads and intersections because of the effectiveness of this," said miller. though the new alternative to salt seems to be an all around better removal substance, some people are worried about possible staining as beet juice is also known for it's intense color. "you can wash it off your vehicles...any car wash with soap and water. it's not caustic or anything. again the sodium in the salt...the lorides are probably more damamang than the beet jui," said miller. jessica rae scott: remember go to siouxland matters dot com. for the latest on this morning's school closings. scott:we have e for the region. here's the stormcast hd now where low pressure will move through central nebraska and impact the area with heavy snow - primarily late this momoing into the early afternoon. tonight, the snow will taper off and we'll have gradually clearing skies. expect a cold weekend with high teeratures getting into the 20s on saturday. sunday, we'll tap into a more southerly flow and we'll expect a warming trend to occur into next week. today's high is 34 with periods of with clearing skies and snow taperinin off. the high tomorrow is 26 with mostly sunny skies. here's a check of the 7 day forecast where we'll have some warming after snow and cold conditions. jessica rae scott: later today...... thanks for tuning in and keep it right here on a-b-c 9...... thank for joining and the american music awards on sunday. >>> good morning, america. breaking news, a hotel srmed by a team of terrorists with guns and grenad
