katy zachry is live along penn's landing to explain. >> reporter: that's right. this veterans memorial here will no doubt be a destination throughout the day for so many who want to honor those who served our country. but before today even came there was one class we were invited to that was already thanking the service men and women who spent years serving our country.yóvs at the day school about 80 students got a real lesson in what it's like being a veteran. the principal invited several veterans in the community, one student's father who is active in the service joined as well. the kids are young but we saw they were hungry for answers. some asked what's the scariest think you've ever done? did you miss your family while you served? what made you decide to serve our country? the students also had thank you notes prepare forward the veterans and before each of the veterans they read those notes. it was touching and we'll share some of those heart warming exchanges in the next hour. reporting live in penn's landing, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >> it is now offici

as we we take a look outside, we are looking at the river rink in penns landing. this morning it almost feels like ice skating weather. too bad it's not open right now. it's going to be a chilly day today after a cold start. brisk and chilly with windchills adding to that chilly feel, but there's a milder trend coming as we move later in the week, that will be here in time for thanksgiving. 36 degrees in philadelphia. the dewpoint low, the air cool and crisp. the winds a bit of a factor at 8 miles per hour. you do need to bundle up as you head out the door. there are the coastal showers and cloud cover disappearing overnight. in the great lake you can see lake effect snow in new york state and western pennsylvania. that will erode before it gets here, though. we're looking at a bright, sunny day. 39 degrees by 11:00. 45 by 2:00, high of 46 before we dip to 43 at 5:00 p.m. winds generally running 10 to 20 miles per hour. that will keep windchills rather noticeable. we're looking at windchills in the 20s, by the time we get up to lunchtime, most of us feeling like w

live hd, conditions are nice and calm as we take a peek at the ben franklin bridge and parts of penns landing and i-95. let's get the latest from david murphy outside the studios with the check of the mild monday. how you doing? >> reporter: not a bad afternoon to be spending out doors that's for sure, not a cloud in sight currently. satellite shows you the cloud cover well to the north. a little bit of it filtering south of washington. the air is so dry all of that is being melted away. we have seen the temperatures climb we're up to 68 degrees in philadelphia. 67 in wilmington. 66 in trenton. 65 in allentown and down the shore a little bit cooler in sea isle city and other spots close to that ocean water temperature which is in the 50s, the winds not all that strong single digits across the region out in reading. we've got them ten miles per hour temporarily. generally speaking this is the range we expect to see winds wise the rest of the way. the high temperature will get up to 69 degrees. i wouldn't be surprised to see spots hit 70 especially in urban centers. 45, the low that is running
