live near evansdale, brea love, kcrg tv nine news. cedar rapids police are still investigating after a vehicle went off ellis road nw into the cedar river last night. the driver survived the plunge. crews were on scene for about 2 hours -- with plenty of work just to free up the car... from the banks of the cedar. a saturday night became an evening that a driver will never forget as, at about 10 p-m, rescue crews were called out to this location - the 4500 block of ellis road northwest in cedar rapids... and what they discovered was a honda convertible on the edge of the cedar river. police told tv-9 that the driver, a male whose name has not been made public, said he was driving westbound on ellis and swerved to avoid a deer. this particular stretch of ellis does not have much room between police said the driver was ok, except for some hypothermia concerns with the cold water. with police and fire crews working the 4500 block of ellis -- and even with a staging area two miles to the east... just in case the car slipped away... the me
