our cbs 4 chris spears is at the airports. chris, good morning, how is it looking? >> it's snowy. denver airport lorted after the normal 30-year snow average for denver is 5.7 inches. we've seen a one day. here's the crews around the property clear. so that you can come out and make your flight, but i want to let you know, the roads getting here to the airport are very icy and snow packed. slippery conditions coming in from i-70. you can see the cars in the parking lot covered with snow. these winds gusting out of the north. dave aguilar at times, 20 miles-an-hour. the direction is more northerly verses northeast. that's a good sign the low pressure is making its jont away. >> the backside of the low is going to keep snow coming. as it moves away, things are going to improve around here today. we spent all weekend long telling you it's going to take all day monday and tuesday to -- still winter storm warning for most of colorado including the mountains and eastern plains and denver. chris told you, 6.9 official, that will probably go up. fort collins and littleton, boulder, 11 inc

meteorologist chris spears is at denver international airport where the winds are disrupting travel plans. chris, good morning. >> good morning from snowy denver international airport. we have 4.69 inches. we're going to give you a view of the errant. we had 500 cancellations on monday. 100 and counting. the snow falling 1 inch per hour. overnight a powerful winter storm slammed the country's midsection from colorado to kansas car wrecks littered streets as the mounting snow caused several dangerous accidents. the strong winds and whiteout conditions forced the partial closure of several highways including interstate 70. around the denver area, people struggled to move their cars through the heavy snow, already more than 7 inches in and around the mile high city where drivers were left spinning their wheels on messy roads. other parts of the state saw more than 17 inches. even though the snow proved treacherous for some, others welcomed the blast of winter weather. closures in denver and surrounding areas. we're looking at it a tough morning drive in denver but a little bit of good news,
