so let's go out now to connell mcshane standing by at the cruz headquarters in texas. connell?ter: i heard you talking earlier in the show about the state of texas. you had it exactly right. it adds to what senator cruz was talking about in that sound bite with neil as well. speaks to the strategy that the senator has, he knows, everybody knows this is a must-win tonight, but not as simple as. that it goes into the delegate math and the way the delegates are handed out in a large state by texas, in a proportional basis. cruz not only to win but win by a fairly large margin which may be a tall order. as you heard him say, his argument is he can set up a one-on-one matchup after today with donald trump. a similar one that marco rubio is making as well. in addition to that, cruz had this to say about mr. trump earlier in the day. >> what donald is benefitting from is a fractured opposition. and, you know, i would note, if you're tired of the insults. if you're tired of the circus show. tired of the profanity and vulgarity. if you want a president who you know what he will do, then

connell: absolutely right. missing the parade of the avenue, by the way, to bring you this on the delegate math. and it's interesting on the 17th of march means we've gotten past the 15th of march, which is what we're looking forward to. some say there's more clarity in the race. we move to the 22nd and arizona will vote because of its proximity of the border, and everything donald trump has on border issues, there seems to be an advantage of that state. let's say he does and then start looking at the state of utah, which is the cruz campaign 40 delegates state. a caucus state. remember, this race isn't over yet. some say donald trump has a clear path to 1237, the magic number. if cruz won't wants to stop him, utah would be a good place to start. now, if we come back out on the map, some of the results have come in other states already, it's interesting that cruz has done well in caucus states. id's one example. but because of the proximity to utah, cruz 45, trump 28, that's the type of result that's already be

my colleague connell mcshane is there. connell, what is the latest? i know senator rubio is saying, well, some of the polls there might not be correct? reporter: well he better hope they're not because donald trump has been leading, deirdre, in all of the polls going back for months. only a question about the margin of his lead. in most recent polls he has been up 20 plus points. that's why you're hearing that type of rhetoric, that type of state from senator rubio who has been insistent to your point, public poll something getting it all wrong. his private poll something showing much closer race. he will surprise everybody in next few hours. one thing we do know, we're told turnout is quite large. state officials been saying that to us throughout the day anecdotally, reports from county officials back to the state headquarters. maybe even record-setting it has been so big. on top of that this is kind of interesting, much back and forth among twitter. interesting tweet came in from dr. ben carson who makes his home here in florida. he says any candida

connell mcshane with what is ahead, connell? reporter: perspective on the numbers where we are and where we need to go. i look at how long ago rum trump is not nomination. magic jumper 1237. he is basically a third of the way there. what does he need to do, anybody else need to do this get there. of remaining delegates out, with trump at 384 he would have to win 54%, a little more than half of remaining delegates. cruz would have to win 60%. rubio has a tall task. he with have to win nearly 70% of the remaining delegates. kasich would have to win 3/4. blake was talking about state of michigan. a lot of people are focused on it, for the sake of delegate math, we have a lot of math to do, 554 republican delegates at stake between now and 15th of march. assume trump hangs on and wins in the state. he has been leading as blake talked about in many polls. he could lose it but say if he wins. that brings us to the 15th. even if he doesn't, these states on the 15th are enormously important. if trump wins we'll talk about florida and oh
