with no lights at the downtown berkeley ymca, some people who showed up for dance class this morning, well, they had to improvise. >> everybody was standing outside when i got there. power was out. our dance teacher was right there. we always love to dance. so we just went down to the park. somebody went to their car and got a speaker, their ipod, and we did our dance class. >> reporter: and again a pg&e representative confirmed minutes ago they had some sort of an equipment failure at a pg&e substation in el cerrito this morning. and that in turn, led to a fire at the substation and knocked out power to initially what was 43,000 customers through the east bay from berkeley all the way up to san pablo and parts of richmond as well. initially, they had 43,000 people without power. they are trying to restore power to everyone. pg&e spokesperson just told me they got the lights back on to about 1,500 or so customers and there is no word, you guys, when they will get the power restored to all the rest of those customers. but again here is the scene in the downtown berkeley area. the light
