now let's get a look at the weather outside with meteorologist bill karins. a lot of people don't think about that when they take their kids to the playground weather. >> oh, it's hot, especially all the metal. again, the concerns today. severe weather and heat wash. it's almost the same locations. we also have flash flooding thunderstorms rolling down through iowa. they're going head to kansas city. we do have the possibilities of damaging winds as they move through the region. in all, 43 million people are at risk for severe weather. it's possible again today. right now it's an enhanced risk to st. louis, possibly even chicago. as far as the heat goes, excessive heat warning for philadelphia, new york areas. philadelphia will feeling like 100. new york city around 956789 as far as the south goes, it's almost the same. oklahoma city, by the way, you've been upgraded to an excessive heat warning. it could feel like 113 today for you. the middle of the country is obviously very hot. the only really relief you get up there is the northern rockies. that's your n

bill karins is here with the details. this isn't going to let up any time soon. >> the duration makes it worse. this is one of the largest heat waves i've seen. i've seen more intense ones before. we're going all the way from areas of the midatlantaics, all the way to the desert southwest, just about every single location here in the middle of the country. by the numbers we just mentioned there, 1 18 million to 1 19 million are impacted. heat warnings for 41 million. the heat warnings is the worst case where you have the highest heat indices and that's where they're very concerned about the young and the elderly. that's kansas city, des moines and st. louis. the reason we have we call it the heat dome, the jet stream is far to the north and that's where the storms are riding today. we do have to watch out for extreme weather around bismarck and rapid city. the northeast, strong storms, straightline winds are possible, maybe isolated tonds. this does include new york city, providence, portland and everywhere in new england
