canyon dam. ever been to lake powell, right? 186 miles long. shrinking right now because of lack of water, but gold waerlt voted to approve that dam and even though it flooded one of the most scenic stretches of the colorado, and by the mid-'70s he had changed his tune. because glen canyon dam had done all sorts of things. what happened it stops all the silt from going downstream and it ruined the beaches in the grand canyon and reduced the temperature of the water to something like 47 degrees. you can't swim in the colorado as i once discovered when i was 17 thinking it was the desert and it would be great. i nearly didn't make it out. he said that this was in fact the biggest political mistake of his life voting for the glen canyon dam, even bigger than the vote for the grand canyon act and wilderness act. i think that's astounding. now, as i said, goldwater was a man who responded to change. he responded to the tenor. time, and what you'll find as well is his environmentalism, it comes and it goes. by the mid-'70s and late '70s he started to

growing stronger in yo lrgs o county right now. 1700 acres burning east of the lake, and tonight, there are ev evacuations at canyon creek and golden bear. it started near highway 128. it's close to cold springs canyon. no word on how close planflames to the homes in the area, but tonight, more than a hundred firefighters are working to bring the flames under control. 0% contained. >>> major developments with a wildfire burning, investigators know the cause of the fire saying it started with an illegal campfire left unattended in the state park, and they hope the public finds those responsible for the campfire. the fire was started back on july 22 and charred more than 44,000 acres, 5% contained right now, and they destroy the 57 homes and killed a bulldozer operator helping to fight the fire. >> changes coming to the open unified school district after the way a special needs student was treated in class. the student was held down by educators more than 90 times in less than a year. the u.s. department of education says that visit violates his rights issue and we are live in concord now with changes on the way. >>

relief for folks in that part of the country, we'll see 81 in lake havasu, 53 for show low, cooling down to 60s for sedona, 50 for the grand canyon, and nogales dropping down to about 62. tomorrow even though it's not there, seasonal temperatures if not slightly below, so 100 expected for lake havasu, close to that for bullhead city, 104 for yuma, in the 70s for show low, close to 80 for payson, same for sedona, window rock at about 77 degrees. we are keeping a slight chance of activity in the forecast for overnight, although as we start to see the sunset, that's often where we see the most instability. obviously that section of the day is out the door, so tonight we'll see temperatures cooling to the day 80s into tomorrow about 100 degrees, which is about the seasonal temperature, if not slightly cooler, which we all love to hear, minimal activity expected in the forecast the next few days. we could of course see those outflow winds, causing some thunderstorm activity, as well as some blowing dust, just like we did earlier, but really wednesday thursday guys we start to dry out, and it looks like we'll see some cooler temperatur
