the pennsylvania state system of higher education and the faculty union could not agree on contract terms and early saturday morning dozens hit the picket line at westchester university. >> they are working without a contract for almost 500 days that is insane. the people still teaching are teaching because they need the medical benefits. most classes have been stopped impacting over 100,000 students. it was a show of solidarity on the picket line from westchester to cheney, the nation's oldest historically black university. they are fighting for their contract and still no deal. it all boils down to better pay and better benefits. >> this hasn't happened before. >> full-time professors start at $47,000 and top out at $112,000 plus benefits. they are offer from a 7% to more than 17% increase and a higher cost of medical benefits. they said these are difficult times for our universities if they will not agree to share more of the cost of their own health care like everyone else has it will make tuition less affordable for students. >> what is unfair is for everything they give us they try
