it has past cuba and is barrelling in on the southern bahamas. can you clearly see the eye of the hurricane. a strong hurricane at category 3 and probably growing as it heads towards florida. the current watches and warnings probably include all of the bahamas. and a good portion of the east coast of florida as well. and even down toward the keys, you have a tropical storm warning there. and then a hurricane watch farther up the coast and that will almost certainly become a hurricane warning as the storm gets closer. where is the storm going? the beginning will not look a lot different. this looks like a category 3 and then a 4 going through the northern bahamas by thursday evening. but look at the new track and how close it is to areas just north of miami. a hurricane on the coast like this will create tremendous form surge and heavy surf. and strong damaging winded as well. and then it looks like the storm stays as a category 4 storm past jacksonville before diminishing to a category 2 as it gets into the south carolina area. this developed in t

and the storm is passed by cuba in the southern bahamas and entering very warm ocean water it's a categoryhree storm still a major hurricane with a significant impact to the bahamas and watches and warnings posted for the state of florida. we have hurricane warnings from ft. lauderdale all the way up to die tone in a beach and this storm means business the outer bands will be reaching miami as early as tomorrow morning. and into the evening as we with heavier rain. here's the track of ma huge you can see the center circulation with that core the heaviest rain really close to the inner core of the storm. this is tonight moving toward miami by tomorrow morning some of those outer feeder bands reaching the east coast, and then the storm comes dangerously close possibly even making a landfall very close to cape canaveral as the heavy rain continues to really curve around the area of southern georgia and into the carolinas where evacuations have already been ordered. and the storm continues toward the north and east. it is expected to curl around and head back south over the course of the weeke

it is still a category four as it comes up through the turks and caicos and the southern bahamas as we head in through the day on wednesday. and then finally becomes a category three in the northern bahamas and friday overnight into saturday morning it's very close to the coast of florida becoming a category two. actually stale three and, still a three and then a two as it comes up by georgia. latest projections sunday overnight has the storm coming off the coast of north carolina and the question is where it goes from there. it does look on the spaghetti plot models these tracks are a little closer to the coast than they were yesterday. most of them nearby. some far enough by sea where they would have less of an impact. some inland which would be better over all. what's very likely is that we'll see rough surf and dangerous rip currents probably on saturday sunday and maybe monday as well. what's still unknown is that exact track when it gets off the coast of the carolinas and the exact timing but we're thinking saturday night sunday and maybe monday would be the impactful days if the

evacuations are already underway in several southern states and the storm is battering the bahamas, but there is good news. the outlook here in our region is getting better. it's wednesday afternoon i'm brian taff. >> the track of hurricane matthew makes its way toward the united states. that is the big story. meteorologist, adam joseph, at the "action news" big board with the latest track. right now it's shaping up to be good news for our area. >> reporter: there has been a major shift in the track to the south. but really bad news for the southern states of florida as well as georgia and the carolinas. right now it is a category 3 hurricane winds sustained at 120 miles per hour. it is just to the west of the turks and caicos north of cuba, heading into the central part of the bahamas. you see earlier today the classic eye with the hurricane matthew. the eye is starting to fall apart here maybe going through a reconstruction phase, so to speak, this happens with major hurricanes and another eye wall will flair up eventually as it heads to the north and west and could deepen further. ye

now we have hurricane warnings in effect for all of jamaica, now the hurricane watches for the southern bahamas, and we go through the second half of the upcoming week, and we expect it to move through the bahamas. and now there's an agreement that the bulk of the storm is going to stay off the coast, and right now, most of it is now passing that right in between haiti and cuba, and they are expecting up to 30- foot waves and tremendous rain associated with this especially in the higher elevat north, and now a lot of them are taking this back out to see. again, exactly how close it gets to the state of florida will impact our weather here at home. i will explain that in a second. this morning, not too bad. comfortable in downtown tampa, sitting at 75 degrees this morning, and a light north, northeast breeze, and those numbers climb, getting to the low 80s by 11:00, and we will top out at 88, a degree above average by this time of the better shot of afternoon storms. this time yesterday, we had very comfortable temperatures, 60s in the foreign counties, and this morning, not too bad, but the hum

there it is right there moving through the southern bahamas. now there are changes to the track of this system at least longer term. this is the forecast still forecasted to move through the bahamas hitting nassau tomorrow morning hitting the east coast and places like cape canaveral and cocoa beach friday morning category 4 storm that's over 130 winds. after that it starts to track just east of jacksonville by friday evening. this has been the biggest change. it looks like it will graze south carolina and north carolina and move back out over coast. part of the reason for that is the system coming through here friday night. this is actually going to push this thing earlier out to sea. at least for the time being and some computer models lollygagging around here. stay tuned. that's the latest track on matthew. there are mandatory evacuations for some areas. before i get to that i want to show you this if we can switch alert weather app you can actually track the storm with us. we have the radar on. >> and you can hit tropical tracks there. this

then it moves up overnight tonight passed cuba and then into the day on wednesday up across the southern bahamas. that is 2:00 tomorrow and it is going to have some devastating we take it into early friday morning. here is 2 a.m. sitting just off of the course of florida as a category three storm. everybody inside that white line is likely to have tropical storm force winds. so this is going to have a major impact on florida. they may end up with some watches coming up shortly. we will let you know. sitting just off the coast of then the center really passes right over potentially wilmington, morehead city, and cape hatteras. and then for our area we are certainly in that cone of uncertainty. this is a look at the computer model forecast. it continues to push farther and farther to the west. i will talk about why that is it is tuesday and we are talking about saturday, so a lot of things could happen. we have woken up to some cloud cover with 63 in durham. our dew point is 62 and it is 57 in south hills and 59 in roxboro . it is 66 in fayetteville and 67 and clinton. a little bit of cloud cover

with this and as we go through tonight into tomorrow, by 6:00 tomorrow morning, we're across the southern bahama chain with those hurricane force winds, move through there and it's making a bend more towards the northwest and then over the state. along the east coast of florida, that probability of seeing tropical force storm winds, between 70% and over in polk county, highlands county, probably a 40% chance and a 20% to 30% chance of seeing tropical force storm winds even here on the western side of the state. now, if that track shifts, all of these numbers may shift as well. we could see winds gusting close to hurricane force along the east coast of florida as we get into friday morning. you look at the wave heights being reported to the southern forecast for these waves, as we go through a couple of days, that red shade is 18 plus foot waves and notice them making their way to the eastern side of the state as we get into friday morning. now, our forecast for us, we continue today just to see some scattered showers. 87 degrees under variably cloudy skies and then for tonight, not a bad night.

on its way into the southern bahamas at 8:00 p.m. wants to go east of nassau and then make its way toward grand bahama island. come very close, some computer models, actually bring it on shore, melbourne, florida, and push it up the coast toward the conference. the -- carolinas. the official line of the track would be landfall in myrtle beach, south carolina. you have to pay attention to this whole area, not the center track only. this has been shifting left and right, mostly left toward this d difficult to determine. here's why, yes, the official track brings it up south of new england, as a category 1 hurricane by sunday morning. but look how wide that possible track area. in here, we are on the right-hand side, getting some wind and some rain. out here, we get nothing from this storm, except some big waves. and some of the latest coming in is really peculiar, check this out. that spaghetti plot they often show you with the computer model charts coming in, all agree it's going in this path, very close carolinas. but i've been tellin

through eastern cuba right now and into the bahamas tonight, the southern bahamas an turning left. this by the way is turks and caicos, the tropical storm warning, the bahamas start here. all the way this far south. the bahamas are that far, that long of an island chain, then coming up through the bahamas, toward nassau, which would be on the weaker side on this track, although still in that area where the track can come right through or move a little farther away, toward grand bahama island where freeport is, but no the western fringes from miami, northward to melbourne and even into jacksonville, florida, that's tall part of the western fringe of these tracks. there is equal probability this can go left or right. west or east of this center point. that's why you need to concentrate on this entire area, not just the center point. the center point is an average. if it does end up being the average, it would come right along parallelling the coast of florida, to the carolinas, and then make landfall somewhere along wilmington, north carolina, perhaps even into cape the storm is going

a second landfall later today on the east side of cuba and then it will be heading into the southern bahamaso the northern bahamas. right now still a very powerful category four storm. we should get our next update within moments before 2:00 but right now latest advisory, 145 mile per hour winds, gusts of 175, moving to the north at 10 miles per hour. of course, like we said, this is a very dangerous category four storm with 175 mile per hour winds. now, the hurricane-force winds extent about 60 miles from the center. tropical storm force winds extend about 185 miles from the center and so the impacts can be far-reaching. it is located about 90 miles south of the eastern tip of cuba. and on this latest forecast we noticed it took this dangerous shift to the west yesterday afternoon and the forecast track is still holding to that. i can give you a closer look at this track, wolf, this is a dangerous situation because depending on how far west this storm actually gets, that's going to mean the difference in how much of an impact will be felt along the southeast coast. that's why florida and al
