you see spotty snow showers up around michigan.n that rain that's really kind of fizzled out. still some gusty winds and a big difference in the temperatures from new york city to cleveland. and that's where the front is now that continues to move off to the east. here we are looking for a couple weather systems moving in by the end of the week. there will be an area of low pressure creating spotty showers for southern california. that could move into the south bay but not expecting it to cause widespread rain for us. as we go into saturday and sunday, as we welcome in the new year there will be a couple of weak weather systems moving in but nothing that looks to bring any widespread heavy rain. looking at the forecast between now and next tuesday, it only brings us up to half an inch of rain. it doesn't look like a lot. then behind that there will be a big chill starting out the new year as some cold air dips in from the north. so we will not be shaking this cold weather anytime soon. looking at the seven-day forecast for san fran

and it looks spotty as we continue all the way through wednesday's forecast. we'll begin to really see things pick up by wednesday at 9:30 another night as the storm  starts to move closer, we think at this point, it will still be a morning event for the north bay on thursday, then once we hit the early afternoon, widespread coverage of heavy rainfall. and once we hit the late evening, it will be all about the south bay continuing with this possibility of wet weather, i really think at this point we'll clear out for friday and saturday. river levels, i want to get this information to you, the highest river level we're tracking would be the russian river at hopland. on that note we're not seeing any rivers at flooding stage at least at the current point. sierra snow, watch out, at least a foot of snow for the higher elevations, check this out, 40 to 50-mile-per-hour gusts. maybe whiteout conditions for monday. >>> the new discovery at the south bay's largest reservoir and the impact it could have on its ability to collect precious rain water. >> nbc bay area

notice greens, just dotting the bay area, spotty showers are possible at 7:00 a.m. this is what i do want to draw your attention to. mt. hamilton is showing blue there, indicating snow and the pink is a mix of rain and snow. so, don't be surprised if you life in the south bay area and you look up and you see a dusting of snow. spotty showers will continue through the late morning hours and by afternoon, all of that is gone. so your new year's eve plans are fine. if you are traveling up to tahoe for new year's eve, tomorrow is a good day to go. partly cloudy skies and snow showers on saturday. and possibly snow in to sunday. snow will be at low levels, but it's not going to be terribly windy. we have a one on the storm impact scale. we are expecting cold scattered showers, less than a quarter of an inch, dropping to 1,000 foot level by tuesday. here is why, arctic air will plunge south, driving the temperatures down, so it will be bone chilling cold. the cold where you feel your knuckles cracking. you need the extra moisturizer and you will need the winter clothing.
