in east palo alto -- the flooding was so bad... some residents of a condo complex evacuated their homes. kron 4's gabe slate in live on the scene... gabe we understand it was a voluntary evacuation??? this is the woodland creek condominium complex off west bayshore road.the city asked the residence here to evacuate early this afternoon. it was voluntary, not manditory they were worried about them being so close to the san fran sis qeet toe creek that was nearing it's crest. let's take a look at that creek.. this creek filled so fast today and swept up so much debris, trees, branches, trash it all collected hereso much so they had to immediatley remove the debris so the creek would flow again under the bridge highway 101.this is looking better now but take a look at what it did look like just hours ago branch after branch floated down the san fran qeet toe creek in east palo alto until it they could not go any further. mother nature was making a damn here at west bayshore road and the hwy 101 bridge.. taking advantage of the cities

down the peninsula we are seeing heavy rain through palo alto. just a few minutes ago it wasn't raining there. it is is moving in that direction. and the santa cruz mountains. right now not raining. it is is included in a flash flood watch until 4:00. also a flash flood watch for all the north bay where we may have rising creeks and streams. the next round of heavy rain continues and gets heavier as we go through 7:30 this morning. and it moves from north to south. still at 10:30, we have heavy rain in the peninsula, south bay, and the tri-valley. and then it starts to become a little more scattered for this afternoon. so we do have several more hours of this rain that will be pouring at this pace. and then we'll catch a little bit of a break later tonight and into the start of the day tomorrow before the next storm system moves in. we still, once again, have two storm systems that have yet to pass through the bay area. looking at rainfall totals, additional rain, close to two inches in the santa cruz mountains. up to an inch and a half in napa.

breaks in the rain for palo alto.etting a little bit more spotty for the peninsula as we are seeing light showers from san bruno and light rain in pacifica. as we get a closer look, we are seeing showers moving in there. we will head out to vianey arana. what does it look like in pacifica? >> reporter: it's getting windier by the minute. with the blowing wind from the northeast, we are starting to see the side ways rain develop in addition to these large waves. the storm will move through pretty quickly. at the moment, if i take out my anemometer, which measures wind speeds, it is 15, 16-mile-per-hour gusts. up to 25 miles per hour as well. although you may not have an anemometer like i do, we have our app. i know that pacifica right now you can zoom in on your exact location. it shows you the sustained winds 50 to 60 miles per hour. very easy to download this app. future cast, looking ahead, half moon bay -- >> all right. as kari was saying, the wind gusts are strong. >> hope she doesn't get her phone wet in the rain

"we've had a lot of water and floods, but this is ugly."a soaked northern california is bracing for several more days of relentless rain ... as the southern part of the state dries out following downpours that left at least five people dead.on friday, a storm victim was electrocuted after a power line fell along an intersection in los angeles. another person was found dead in a flooded vehicle in san bernardino county.authorities recovered a body from a river, saturday, after floodwaters receded. and two others died following a traffic accident in san diego due to the wet road conditions.in

the crews are working to clear the creek and prevent flooding in palo alto and east palo alto. you can see the heavy machinery they're using here. nbc bay area's peggy bunker is along the creek for us. >> reporter: as you mentioned, this creek is a bit unusual. the water is the issue but because it flows under 101, they're concerned it could get stuck under the freeway. this excavator has been here busy working, overnight they got here and they're still underway. the pile of debris is growing as neighbors come out to see what the situation is. neighbors anxiously watching the rising waters of the creek, all of that water carrying debris that gets so piled up that cal trans workers stayed at a nearby hotel last night so they could be close in case the debris brought the creek to a stop. >> we stayed last night to watch and monitor the creek to make sure that the debris that was piling up against our trash rack was taken out. >> reporter: during the last big storm, branches, shrubs and whole trees backed up the creek at the bottleneck in palo alto. that made neighbors nervous eno
