doug kammerer is in the weather center. so, doug, when is this scheduled to hit?oing to be overnight tonight into the day tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be a terrible day for the island of puerto rico for the, what we're going to see around the st. croix area. looking at the storm now, it is an incredibly strong category 5, winds of 165 miles an hour. but we continue to strengthening. this is devastating news for areas in the u.s. virgin islands over towards the puerto rico area. this is an area that -- these are the islands, you just can't evacuate from them. you can't just drive to the next island over. you have to get on flights to do so. and of course they're going to be shutting down the airport around puerto rico as well. so, some devastation over the next couple of days. we're going to see a lot of pictures like we're seeing out of the dominica area, out of guadalupe today, that will be tomorrow in st. croix, the virgin islands and yes, into puerto rico as well. much more on this. i have the latest forecast for you coming up in a minute. >> all right. thank

. >> storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer is tracking maria. doug, is this hurricane going to make land fall in the continental u.s.? >> we have information on that, good information. i'm feeling a lot more confident this will stay out to sea. this is something we'll continue to watch the next couple days. it is moving away from puerto rico. now, it is still seeing some shower activity there. some areas of heavy rain still ongoing for the next day or two as this storm meanders and just barely moving to the northwest at about 9 miles an hour, now is the dominican republic caps turn. rain force winds on the island -- this part of the island in the dominican extremelro that is the problem they are going to have. look at thank you, aturks and c from irma. it is going to get hit by maria. the eye itself not all that defined. winds at 120 miles an hour, moving northwest, east of the bahamas. here's the good news. turning back out to sea, very good news for us, away from our region. now, yes, we are still going to have to watch it but it is moving away

chief meteorologist doug kammerer working for you tracking maria's march toward puerto rico. >> a new update on that storm. right now it's only 80 miles south of st. croix in the u.s. virgin islands. let's go right to the satellite. you can see the very well defined eye here. this is a very large hurricane making its way towards st. croix right now. as i mentioned, 80 miles to the south of st. croix. and then over towards portions of puerto rico where it's about 175 miles south and east of san juan. san juan on the north side of the island, it's expected to make its way on land very close to st. croix, very close to viegas and very close to the southeast portion of puerto rico here. if it does, in fact, hit puerto rico, it could hit it as a extreme category 4 or category 5 hurricane. they have not seen a storm like this in close to 100 years. islands. we're tracking hurricane jose as well. still a hurricane, 75 mile an hour hurricane. making its way to the north giving us cloud cover and rain to the eastern shore. as this moves out our weather gets really nice. and jose and maria will

. >> let's see how i amma could impact our forecast now with chief meteorologist doug kammerer. >> this is storm is just a huge massive beast. how long before it really starts to fizzle out? >> it's still going to be a day or two before we really start to see it wind down. but the hurricane it was yesterday, the tropical storm that was today has now become the tropical depression that is tonight. we're looking at the shower activity right now and really just the rain. and it has been heavy rain around the atlanta area parkts of alabama, trees down in both states. over a million people without power in georgia today, in parts of the carolinas extremely heavy rainfall. and all of the flooding, historic flooding in jacksonville, fan nav, brunswick, over toward the charleston area and they continue to get those outer rain bands making its way in here. the center right about here. making its way across the border into alabama overnight tonight. now, we also have to talk about jo jose. it's not a very well organized storm. the winds are down to 85 miles an hour. there's a new track. i'll have

let's go now to storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer. enough is enough, doug. >> we're not seeing much. actually we've seen a nice afternoon. mixture of clouds, some sunshine from time to time and temperatures up around average for this time of year which is right around 80, 89. check out the showers. storm team scoping those out for us. not a lot. i expect the increase in coverage. this is not going to be a big night where we have a lot of rainfall. if you have practices tonight, most of them should get in okay, but we are tracking a few. here's one of those areas across the west. northern fauquier county moving to the east. we'll see showers moving in. all part of the remnants of irma which continue to spin around our region. this is all going to continue to move on through through the day tonight into the day tomorrow. that's something we'll be tracking and, of course, tracking the latest with jose. it will have some impacts on the east coast. we're going to talk much more about this. see you back here in a minute. >> the people united

let's go to storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer in the media center. doug, are we finally changing seasons here? >> we finally are, guys. we had the last three or four days above 90 degrees. yesterday felt like the mid 90s. today we're at our high temperature at about 80 degrees. yes, still a little above average. take take a look at the nubltz. 87 degrees, but much cooler to the north. only that is the cooler air as we make our way into tonight and the week. first off, that cooler pattern which looks like it's going to stick around for a while, we'll mention that, and tracking your weekend. what does it mean for your weekend some some of the you may wake up to temperatures in the 40s. that's the kind of chilly fall air we have coming. we'll talk about the lack of rain chances, we have not seen much in the way of rain so far this month. does nlts look like we'll get much in the way of rain soon. amelia draper will join me as well. we'll talk more about the upcoming weekend and any plans you have coming up in just a minute. >> all right, doug. thank you.

let's go to storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer in the storm center. >> doug, what's the word? how long before we see the remnants around here? >> it's going to stick around for a while, guys. a few cloud r. it's having an effect on our weather, but today actually was pretty nice. the clouds are coming from irma and you can see what i'm talking about here. a very broad area now. before it was a nice compact storm and now it's just kind of unwinding itself down and towards parts of the south. before it was nice and compact, now it's just a huge storm. cincinnati down towards memphis, follow this. you still have the outer rain bands all the way towards the raleigh area, moving up and just follow the trail here, all the way back into the center of irma which is right now back into parts of mississippi. now, we're going to be tracking this very closely because, yes, we will see some shower activity. you may need the umbrella from time to time. but that's going to be about it. not a huge impact here. jose, hurricane jose, everybody is asking where is jose going. right now moving aw

let's get the latest from doug kammerer. >> the next tar i this is in the turks and caicos.e fairly close but i don't think they'll get hit quite as hard as they did from hurricane irma. the storm itself, 18 hours away making its way into st. croix and into south portions, it's back over open waters. the latest advisory has shown that it's a category 2 storm and not just getting away from land and strengthen back and just off to the east of the southeast coastline as we move in to the day on sunday, monday and then into tuesday and that's where this could intersect and interact with jose bringing jose back onto shore. this is something that we'll watch very, very closely over the next couple of days, trying to get the track to load for you to see where it's heading. winds at 110 miles per hour. this is the track moving up toward

chief meteorologist doug kammerer is working for you tonight tracking hurricane jose's path and potential impact on our area. doug? >> yeah and i do think it will have a little impact on our region, but a parts of the northeast the next couple of days. let's get right to it and show you where jose is right now. if you're just looking at this map, not sure where the storm is going, it's pretty imposing right off the florida coast line. you see it just to the east of miami here and just to the east of the bahamas, just providing some high surf for parts of those areas. that is jose, current winds of 75 miles an hour, a very weak hurricane. but it is expected to pickup in intensity. then we move down into the open waters of the atlantic to the central atlantic. one and two systems. one of which already became a tropical depression number 14. this one here expected to strengthen into a depression or a possible tropical storm over the next 48 hours. so, we could see both lee and maria form over the next 48 hours. this storm right here is the one i'm worried about. this one should strengthen an

this is doug kammerer. he's going to be in sunday morning. of course, he's showing you what a category 3 wind looks like. now, you don't want to be standing in kpcategory 3 wind. he's strapped down here. category 3 winds are not something to mess with. he's showing you -- look at his face, his skin. look at that. you don't want to be in that. that was a while back he did that. he wanted to show everybody how strong the winds are. category 3 wind will cause damage as the storm moves into flori florida. the category 4 hurricane moved through the turks and caicos and heading for warm water. the direction of motion between the bahamas and cuba, the most dangerous side of the hurricane is northeast of the eye. so whoever is northeast of the eye is going to ge threat of tornadoes. the most damaging winds and heaviest rain. this will move into florida. we don't know exactly where it makes landfall. we have to wait for the north turn going into saturday. 155 miles an hour sustained wind. expected to stay as a category 4 as it nears the florida keys.

and doug kammerer. what are you seeing out there? >> announcer: now here's storm team 4 forecast. >> guys, you mentioned it is a category 4. that is brand-new. latest advisory from the hurricane center winds of 130 miles per hour right now. you see where the storm is, making its way very close to the islands and i just talked about these islands about 15 minutes ago. this is dominica right here. this right here is guadalupe. guadalupe half a million people. dominica less than that. these two will see the worst of the storm. close to puerto rico, maybe a direct hit to puerto rico. this is a situation that is dire, just as much so as irma was for the islands to the north. the islands to the north will get hit again. i'm talking barbuda, i'm talking the u.s. virgin islands. but the eye of the storm may stay just to their south around possibly even st. croix, an island that missed for the most part irma. but this is a storm system we're going to continue to watch. maria a very strong powerful go to a very weak hurricane, but a very broad

our team coverage continues now with doug kammerer. he's in storm center 4 tracking maria's path to tell us where the storm is headed next. >> well, guys, right now it's to the north of the dominican republic. still bringing an incredible amount of rainfall to puerto rico. so, they're not done yet with the flooding. this is going to go on for days. the flooding will go on for days as it is a very mountainous island. same thing with the dominican republic. not just mountainous here, but there are almost no trees left on the mountains there and those -- that would help keep some of the water back. but, no, this just rushes in. the dominican republic always has a problem with flash flooding. they're going to get it tonight into the day tomorrow as the storm system moves just to the north and west. the strongest winds just on the northern border here, but look at the turks and caicos. very close now. already getting into the tropical storm force winds. th bit more of a northerly turn. it's expected to turn almost due north at this point, a
