kris sanchez is live from san leandro. kris, we know the person was able to get away. how were they able to impersonate police officers? that's the question. >> reporter: this is an unnerving story because a lot of us drive alone at night, in the morning, at dark. it is certainly a cause for concern. because this driver, this victim trusted his gut and called 911, he was able to get away and those suspects are now in custody. the state cop busted, along with three others including two juveniles. this is the car. a silver, crown victoria, which looks legitimate. the suspect used something to simulate the sound of a siren. the victim pulled over thinkinging the traffic stop was the real deal. it happened at bancroft and 136th avenue in san leandro. san leandro police said once the fake officer got out of the car, the victim knew he had to get away. >> the victims noticed that the person getting out of the car was wearing a sweatshirt with a hood and the person put the hood up over his head. the victim realized that was not a police officer. fearing for his safety, the vi

. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live in downtown san jose with the time line. t of the project really may make a huge difference here in the south bay. >> reporter: yeah, we have been talking ant that. as somebody who lives and works in the south bay, this is the talk of the town. now we know the ultimate transformation, as they are calling it, the google village, will not happen until bart is done where we are this morning according to the city's director of economic development, kim wallish. she wrote that in a statement obtained by mercury news. it will happen around 2025. that will include the transit village here around the 20,000 employee google campus as well. the land purchases are in full swing. the area in color is the planned google footprint. the red areas of properties acquired by the development partner to the tune of 1$146 million. the areas in blue are city and government owned properties that google has its eyes on, would like to acquire. we have reported previously on community outreach and how that is supposed to be a part of this whole develo

kris sanchez is live with some of the clues that may help police find the shooter. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. we don't know why that uber driver might have been targeted, if he was targeted. we know it triggered what could have been a deadly chain reaction on 380. the freeway is open now. the gunshot calls started coming into chp at 11:00. officers found that uber driver shot in the neck with a passenger in the backseat. that passenger was not injured. officers also found a vehicle from a traffic crash that happened because of all of this on 380 west, headed toward 280 north. there was another vehicle that was also hit by gunshots with a bullet hole in the front window and in the rear mirror as well. the gunshot victim was transported. chp believes this person will survive. they are talking to a lot of people about what happened. >> we have the investigators talking to not just the driver. also to passengers. "today in the bay's", kris sanchez is live with what you need to know before you fill up your tank. od morning, kris. >> reporter: you cannot hoard gasoline, so it's only going to save a little at the pump. the gas prices are going to go up because of the taxes on november 1st. it is 12 cents per gallon, going up in the regular gas tax. diesel users are going to pay 20 cents more plus sales tax. this is $5 billion for state and local projects. take a look at this graphic. by 2019, nearly 77 cents of every dollar you spend on gas will actually pay for taxes with states getting 58 cents on the dollar. the president of the silicon valley taxpayers association says before tomorrow, california pays the highest gas prices in the country with little to show for it. >> the money that's currently being taxed, again, we are the highest taxes in the nation on gasoline. why is that money not being spent on road repairs? >> reporter: if you are thinking, i'm good because i drive a zero emission car, you might not pay at the pump, but you will pay a new $100 vehicle registration fee in 2020. tomor

kris sanchez is live where it happened off interstate 380 in san bruno with more on the search for the suspect. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning. we don't know if the uber driver was specifically targeted or whether it was a random act of violence. we can say it triggered a chain reaction that could have been deadly. officers arrived on scene just after 11:00 last night. they were called because of reports of gunfire on the freeway. they found the uber driver shot in the neck. the passenger in the backseat was not injured. not far from there, another injured in a car crash that happened because of the shooting. officers also found a third car with the whole back window shot out, bullet holes in the front window and the rear mirror. now, we don't know the status of that driver, but we know the uber driver and a second driver were transported to the hospital and officers say they are going to talk with all of them. >> we have our investigators talking to not just the driver, but also the two passengers that were in there. kris sanchez is live in san bruno. kris?rter: we know the emergency personnel there in santa rosa and sonoma county have their hands full. they are getting help from southern bay area law enforcement officers. here we are near the shops. these are officers getting briefed right now. they are getting ready head up to santa rosa to assist with the evacuations. we have talked about how many people have been forced from their homes and how quickly they had to leave. so many road closures adding to it. these officers are going to come in to help. they could not talk to us on camera, but they did confirm as soon as they are done with their briefing, in five minutes or so, they are hitting the road. we are talking a dozen officers from about six different agencies we have seen. san mateo county sheriff, the police, burling game, fremont, hillsborough, belmont. we want to give them credit. they are up bright and early this morning as they are headed out to assist with the evacuations. we are going track them, hopefully, maybe one of

kris sanchez is clinching the numbers for us this morning. this further adds to the conversation of gun control in the wake of the las vegas massacre. >> reporter: right, that conversation was resparked after the massacre in las vegas. the study connects the dots of what happened at las vegas or rather nevada gun shows and what happens in california communities. the uc berkeley published find when there was a nevada gun show, there was a 70% spike in gun violence in california communities in the two weeks following the gun show. we are talking communities within a driving distance to nevada. now, one of the issues may be that nevada requires no background check on private sales like the ones you see at gun shows. now, the study found no such surge in violence after the california gun shows. they suggest california's gun laws work to curb that violence. here, gun show sales require those background checks and the ten-day waiting period, which nevada does not. this is weeks after stephen paddock shot and killed 58 people before killing himself.

kris sanchez is there with the tug of war that's going on there. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. this debate of whether or not to extend the curfew an our went past the curfew. in the end, the city held firm. what is it mean for me if i have a cold play ticket? they will take the stage as planned tonight. they are expected to just blow past that curfew and the stadium is expected to allow it. in a letter to the interim city manager, the vice president of stadium operations says shuting down the show could create a public safety threat. if the show goes late, there is a fine. it's $1,000 fine. it is chump change compared to what the stadium claims it costs the stadium if they cannot book weeknight concerts. levi stadium leaders claim ed sheeran pulled out because of the curfew costing the city up to $800,000 for that stadium alone. what does it mean for you if you are a resident of santa clara? the council voted unanimously to get input from the neighbors and how they feel now that there is a price tag on the 10:00 curfew

kris sanchez is live with what police are saying so far about what happened. kris? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. the police officers just cleared this scene here where the violence erupted just before midnight, just before closing time inside this vietnamese restaurant listed as a sports bar. you can see how chaotic the scene was as officers in full body armor were pulling people out. at that point, just before midnight, officers couldn't tell whether the victims were involved in this. at this point, they conclude the four people injured either shot or stabbed were victims and not involved in what is possibly a shooting and stabbing. the four victims were treated. all of them are expected to survive. now the search is on for suspects. at this point, sjpd is not giving a description of the suspect or the get away vehicle. if that changes, we will pass that information on to you. is t scene is here at a strip mall. the scene is contained in the parking lot. again, the officers just left. no lights, no crime scene tape. there should not be an impa

kris sanchez is taking a look alt the results and what it means if you are looking to buy or even sell. good morning, kris. >> reporter: hi there, laura. this is a good news/bad numbers story. if you are looking to sell, the average median price over the last september went up $125,000. if you are looking to buy, chances are you are going to continue to struggle with the low supply that we have been talking about for months. overall, bay area home sales dropped 4% this september over a year ago the average home price went up 11% according to the california association of realtors. what really matters is where you live and where you want to buy. right? we broke it down with the county numbers. the biggest changes were alameda county, a 50% decrease in home sales this september compared to a year ago. contra costa county saw a 5% drop. napa 12% drop over last september. the one county with more sales marin, 24% increase in the number of homes sold. the counties largely unchanged were santa clara, san francisco, san mateo and sonoma. from this graph, sales in blue are down. supply, in yel

kris sanchez is there. firefighters told us how they were making sure they answered the call here at home and the bay area or north bay, rather. >> reporter: right. you know, they have crews up in the north bay, but there are still fires burning up here at home. this home right here went up in flames around midnight. you can see it is being boarded up as we speak. likely, a lot of work we are seeing up in the north bay, some of those more recovered areas. when fire crews arrived here, after midnight, they thought the family might have been trapped inside. fortunately, firefighters found the house was empty. the garage was engulfed, spreading to the rest of the house and the cars and the driveway. earlier, san jose fire crews fought a grass fire on hamilton road where two homes were claimed by the blaze. crews were working longer shifts. they sent crews to assist in the north bay fires. >> we have been on duty since 8:00 this morning. we'll be on another 36 hours. yeah, it's been a long day so far, already.

kris sanchez joins us from there. firefighters told us they are making sure they answer calls here at home and in the north bay. >> reporter: right. the firefighters that responded to this house fire here in south san jose had been on the clock 12 hours and still had 36 hours to go as they tried to back fill for the crews that went up to the north bay wildfire. yet, they managed to get this under control within about 30 minutes. when fire crews arrived on scene, they thought perhaps the family was trapped inside that home. fortunately, firefighters found the house was empty. the garage was engulfed, spreading into the rest of the house and the garage. fire crews fought a grass fire on mt. hamilton road but not before that blaze claimed two homes. crews are working longer shifts to back fill the three fire engines and crews assisting in the north bay wildfire. >> we have been on duty since 8:00 this morning and will be on for another 36 hours. yeah, it's been a long day so far, already. >> reporter: you can see the hou

i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. back to those wildfires as we continue to push the firefighters continue to push those limits across the bay area this morning. as crews make progress on the north bay wildfires, another one pops up in santa cruz mountains, forcing more evacuations. >> it is active. here is where things stand. the so-called bear fire is burning near 5% containment. it is threatening 271 acres, actually, 271 acres are burned, but 150 homes are under threat, under mandatory evacuation orders this morning. that is the area of deer creek and bear creek canyon. this continues to be a very tough fire fight. five firefighters were hurt while working in very treacherous and steep terrain. the weather could help firefighters with this. >> we have team coverage to get you up to speed. me meteorologist kari hall kicks off our coverage. >> likt winds and higher humidity. that is really going to help out as far as containing those wildfires. as we go through the day, it is going to be cooler, compared to yesterday

i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington.his is a story we have been following since 3:00 this morning when we broke in and went on air early at 4:00. right now, we have learned a firefighter has fallen some 50 feet fighting the bear fire. this is near bear creek canyon, not far from ben loman. 125 acres has burned, that's estimated. 100 homes evacuated. one structure fire started this. the structure fire then spread to the vegetation. firefighters waiting for daylight to attack this fire by air. right now, mandatory evacuations are under way in bear creek canyon. this is a look at the location of the brush fire in boulder creek. it is burning southwest of saratoga and los gatos and north of glen arbor road. we want to look at that fire. the flames started going up at deer creek road and bear creek road. people called into the newsroom throughout the night. right now, evacuations are going on. the evacuees are gathering here as you look at boulder creek elementary school. >> because of this urgent overnight fire, we did go on

"today in the bay's" kris sanchez live in san jose with more on what could happen to all the people who actually forget to -- or don't apply. good morning, kris. >> reporter: san jose was the first city to sue the trump administration over that decision to end daca. despite that protest and other pressures the renewal deadline has not changed. what has changed that a lot of d.r.e.a.m.ers have taken to the streets to protest, calling for action after they came out of the shadows to apply for that dak ra promise of deportation, promise of protection against deportation and permission to work. the trump administration announced last month that it would phase out the program and then told congress to take action to protect the d.r.e.a.m.ers. today's deadline is for the 154,000 or so daca recipients whose status expires on or before march 5th of next year. the interesting thing here, it doesn't have be to postmarked today, it actually has to be received by today. now, we talked with an immigration attorney about whether some of those d.r.e.a.m.ers are wondering if they're making themselves g
