avenue. we're recommending removing them to restore the 12 parking spaces and improving transit travel time. the third proposed change is on 17th avenue, which is shown in the next slide. the inbound 17th avenue stop was originally proposed for removal. but we took a closer look at it, look at this stop in particular because of the proximity to the safeway grocery store. we wanted to ensure that if the stop does remain, it has a safe boarding platform, like other stops on taraval. a train rider was hit here in the past five years that the stop and it is likely to be repeated at some point if we don't take action one way or the other. we've take and very thorough look at this since the last board meeting in september reviewing the stop spacing in this area, watching video footage of customers coming out of safeway. surveying where a boarding island could go if we were to keep this stop, which is shown on the diagram here. if a boarding island was installed, take a look. it would remove 11 park

. >>> we have breaking news on virginia avenue. we're hearing about a water main break. >> reporter: this is in a tricky spot that's affecting access. this truck here, they're salting it down. you can see the incredible amount of ice built up since this pipe burst here. the spot is tricky here. we're talking about 27th street where it meets virginia avenue. right in the area of the watergate. this is a spot where a lot of people jump on 66 west. all of it is closed. access to 66 west from here closed, the e street expressway, access to the teddy roosevelt bridge from this spot. a lot of people do that, you won't be able to do that this morning. down virginia avenue, they actually have that closed as well because of all of this ice in the area. they're trying to get a handle on the ice because it's very, very slippery. could take them a while. some of the accumulation is really rather thick. you saw behind me, there's a truck on the scene. they are working on t this is kind of a big area for people as they make their way into work.
