kpix5's juliette goodrich is live in santa rosa in the fountain grove neighborhood. >> reporter: veronica, yes, we are in one of the burn zones tonight. it's been raining steadily all day coming down this evening in the santa rosa area and the concern as paul was mentioning is that unstable ground we've been walking around in all day today. you can see our fogged up lens from all the rain today, but that unstable ground could lead to mudslides. of santa rosa has o alert residents and ta it was three months ago when fire swept through ward page's santa rosa home, a home of 17 years. now this first big rainstorm and mother nature's force delivers yet another dark cloud. today he was covering valuables with tarps to preserve what he has. >> it was just burning constantly. >> reporter: this santa rosa couple's home was spared in the fire, but now they have a new worry.

hard decisions lay ahead for the cash-strapped oak grove school district in san jose. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, the district is seeking to balance the budget by closing schools. these are anxious days for parents here at baldwin elementary in south san jose's oak grove school district. baldwin is one of four schools that may be closed as the district is struggling to keep up with rising costs associated with declining enrollment coupled with payroll and pension obligations. parents are worried says the secretary of the home and school club. augusto/secretary of home and school club '...it's my sincere hope that between the district and the board that they get to all the information, our committee did a great job in making a recommendation but i believe it is just a component of the over all decision...."a committee of parents and other stakeholders recommended that while no middle schools would be shuttered, four elementary schools would be considered for closing. they are baldwin, del roble, gilder and miner elementary. their students would be sent to o

fountain grove area in santa rosa.f course, fountain grove and coffee park are the two areas that have a lot of damage as a result of those wildfires. show you what they're doing. we're showing this a couple months ago and they have the straw waddles in place and kind of blocking off these areas preventing any of the ash and debris from flowing into rivers and streams. so, really, guys, it's two fold. first, they wanted to clear out these areas over the past few months. coffee park and fountain grove where the homes were destroyed. they want to clean out those areas and then set up the waddles in place that i showed you guys to prevent that ash from going into the streams. now, for the most part, it's dark right now. we've seen they cleared out a number of these areas and thankfully haven't been much rain in the past few months which have made it easier to get these preps under way. >> the concern now versus a month or so ago, we received our first rain is perhaps the intensity of the storm is going to be a little bit
