here in flint and detroit and ann arbor. so we are surrounded by the great lakes in the great lakes happened to be the largest source of freshwater in the world. for half a century, we were buying fresh treated great lakes water, high-quality water from detroit. the emergency manager decided it was too expensive to continue doing this and that we would start drawing water from a local flint river until a new pipeline was to be built for the great lakes. the move to the flint river was supposed to be a temporary measure until a new pipeline was to be built. in april 2014, with a very simple flip of a switch, we moved from the great lakes water to the flint river's water. many people think it was the fault of the flint river. the flint river has a legacy of being contaminated by industry. it actually caught on fire twice. but it wasn't the flint river's fault. it would've probably been okay, would have been difficult. but nowhere in comparison to the great lakes if it had been treated properly. it was missing an important ingr
