and a lot of that is going to be up to the supreme court and now we're in the situation where john roberts is going to be the quote/unquote swing in those cases. the thing about roberts that i think people have forgotten is that he has been nothing but an enemy to minority voting rights ever since he stepped on the court. he authored the decision in shelby count which gutted the voting rights act, so one of martin luther king and the civil rights era greatest achievements was gutted by john robert. he has always been on the side of the -- his view of voting rights which is very negative towards minority voters now holds sway over the entire court. much more so than the sex offender case which i don't want to say is not important. it's important. but much more so than gundy. i'm worried about the ability of people to vote, especially considering that voting is the way we only ever stop these people. >> i want to play a little bit, then you can react here. these are two current justices that were speaking on friday, justices that some on our panel know quite well. let's play sotomayor and ka

let me ask you about this idea that people think john roberts is going to be a moderate.i don't know if that's necessarily the case and would like your take on it. >> i think john roberts is a conservative jurist. he is careful and cautious, incremental. he worries about the reputation of the court, institutionalist. so certainly i think as chief justice and as someone somewhere in the middle of this current lineup, he's going to make his mark in that way. >> dana: tell me a little bit about justice kavanaugh. he was sworn in on saturday night. they said he went to work immediately. he already hired a staff, the first ever all female staff. that was his choice to hire them. tell me about what does he have to do to get up to speed for the cases that are being heard by the court this session? >> that was his choice before, by the way controversies came up. people shouldn't think that is in response to that. judge kavanaugh talked about that being his intent during his hearings. he's always taken it upon himself to promote women in the legal profession and as his clerks. he
