keith murray is a trauma surgeon and a member of the s.w.a.t. teamthe injured officer. >> we already had two officers shot and we were getting reports of dead on scene. >> reporter: as his team moved into the lower sanctuary, they found an elderly woman shot in the arm, clinging quietly to the body of a friend. >> she was just staying with the body? >> uh-huh so we kind of, you know, removed her from her friend. i think my medic put a tourniquet on her and we got her out of there as fast as possible. >> reporter: rabbi myers acted as eyes and ears for the dispatchers all the while fearing for his life. how grateful were you to see them come in? >> immensely, i really thought i was dead. i was going to hang up my cell phone and make a video for my wife in the hopes that maybe they'd find the cell phone. >> reporter: it's now the congregation's task to bury the dead. i'm told those funerals will last all week long, robin. that as pittsburgh prepares for the president's visit but he won't be welcomed by everyone. leaders here including the mayor have as

the synagogue had better security. what's your reaction to those remarks? >> this shooter shot four police officers, two patrolmen and two s.w.a.t. officers. these were highly trained individuals with weapons. and in the s.w.a.t. team's case, with weapons that were even more so than you would see on any normal security officer. the idea that the answer for our country is to arm everybody, i think is ridiculous. i don't think any pittsburgher wants to see armed security in their churches or synagogues. and you could speak to the congregants and ask them what they think. but i think the suggestion that the answer to this is to arm everybody in the country doesn't make sense, whether it's a school teacher or whether it's people in our churches. i think the answer is, when you see mass shootings, why do americans, why do civilians, have access to military-style weapons whose only purpose is to kill lots of people quickly? that's what an ar-15 does. and if you want to solve some of the problems of mass shootings, let's take these kinds of weapons out of the hands of civilians. >> i understand, congressman, you have a personal connection to two of the people lost in the shooting. cecil and david rosenthal. i'd like to give

offices and buildings and started looking out and then very shortly thereafter those fbi agents, the s.w.a.t. team members, those who were clearly responding to something, told people, you need to back off. go back in. get under cover back away. presumably because the van itself was perhaps believes to have an explosive inside. clearly nobody knew that but if this was the suspect it was pretty reasonable to assume there's explosives inside and put people at a safe distance. that van was taken away without explosions explosions and at this point finding evidence inside would appear to be perhaps the most important link to the suspect. meantime, police agencies across the state are examining their records. this is a rather unusual spelling. cesar sayoc we're looking and seeing records pop up with different charges. one which we're still in the process of trying to make sure that this is the same cesar sayoc jr. but it was and i'm only pointing out because of the charge, bomb, destructive device, threatened to throw at a place. so there may be indication in court records from previous arrests that li
