i want to go to windsor, north carolina, where rick leventhal is there. the aftermath of the storm, rick. reporter: yeah, just horrific damages here, jackie. north carolina emergency management confirming three tornadoes touched down and one ripped through this neighborhood in burte county. it splintered, look down literally hundreds of trees, a bunch of power lines. damaged homes, left two people dead. the worst of the damage, a half mile where we're standing here. it was a trailer park obliterated by a twister spawned by the hurricane. it destroyed at least 10 trailers. sent more than a dozen people to the hospital. there are two confirmed deaths with a search on going in the last report for one more possible victim. there is the ryan family, who was sleeping. they were in their home, less than a half mile from the trailer park. they resieved amber alerts. the house started rocking. here is how they described it. >> it sounded just like a freight train coming, i mean a freight train. all we heard was stuff falling. the house, sounded like the house was

rick leventhal is back checking recent credit claims about the postal service.peak a good evening, shannon. you might be surprised to learn the obama administration remove more than 12,000 mailboxes during his time in office. hundreds of them without following the appropriate process according to an inspector general report. as where the famous photo of mail boxes piled up in wisconsin, usa today reports that the boxes were not part of some voter suppression scheme, they ran a facility that contracts for the postal service for repainting and replacing old boxes and they have been there for at least a year. other photos showing mailboxes on trucks have generated similar conspiracy theories drawing retweets from prominent democrats including susan rice, saying, what the heck, over an image from portland. the usps says this is standard practice, an annual event were fewer people are mailing letters, they remove after 90 days notice to the community. still in this environment with all the scrutiny and potential pressure on the postal service to handle an unprecedent

right now we're going to check in with rick leventhal, in palm beach florida. how is it there? >> reporter: well, it just started raining again here, arthel. 24 hours ago we had hurricane warnings in effect here in palm beach and all the way up the coast. and now things have been downgraded. the weather is not that bad. the wind's barely blowing right now. the surf is very rough. there are surfers taking advantage of it. we saw a dozens out here in palm beach, even though the beaches are officially closed here and on up the coast. storm surge warnings remain in effect from jupiter to near jacksonville and along the carolina coast with 2 to 4 feet of surge possible especially if we get the rain that adam was talking about, several inches are predicted. we did have minor problems here in palm beach already. we saw power crews fixing a downed line. so sporadic outages and flash flooding is possible. there are 150 people in shelters in palm beach county, socially distancing since coronavirus is spiking here. >> everybody's hoping that this stays off our shore. we know we're going t

rick leventhal has a story for us tonight. >> this wasn't a kid caught in the cross fire, this was aittle boy playing on his bicycle with his seven and 8-year-old sisters nearby, shot point-blank in the head. funeral services are being held this hour in wilson, north carolina. he was supposed to start kindergarten this week. witnesses say cannon was playing on his bike when a man walked up, put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. arriving officers took the boy to the hospital but cannon could not be saved. this aspect, was arrested monday and charged with first-degree murder. he lives next door and reportedly may have been angered because cannon rode his bike on his lawn earlier in the day. cannon's mom wrote on facebook. "my baby didn't see color. he made sure he knew he loved you even if he only knew you 5 minutes. and his grandmother asked, when are we going to write "children's lives matter" on hollywood boulevard. sessoms has a criminal record with firearms and drug convictions. cannon's mom says she hopes sessoms rots in hell. tucker? >> tucker: what a depraved story. joe

leland: rick leventhal in fort lauderdale, florida, was caught in one of those feeder bands that cameshore not too long ago. seems like, rick, the rain is certainly starting to pick up. >> reporter: the winds have picked up. rain fortunately not falling at the moment. there is a state of emergency declared here and in all 19 of florida's coastal counties with hurricane watches around warnings from broward county all the way up to the northern end of the state. you can see the beach here, relatively empty. we can show you the chairs have been chained down on the beaches and the hurricane shutters have been locked shut. we have drone footage from earlier today where you can see the beach is quiet for the most part. beaches, marinas and parks have been closed up and down florida's coastline because of the state of emergency that's been declared. there are some 20 shelters that are on standby. because of the coronavirus, there are concerns about moving people to those shelters if necessary. here's more from governor ron de santis. >> we have the non-congregate options available for people

gillian: for a look at the conditions now on the ground in the state of florida we turn to rick leventhal who has drawn the short straw today, reporting live from west palm beach, rick. >> reporter: remarkably mild here, considering that 24 hours ago we were looking at the prospect of a potential direct hit with a hurricane warning in effect in palm beach. we had very little wind, very little rain right now. there are storm surge warnings from jupiter to jacksonville beach and along the carolina coastline, concerns about the storm maybe making a jog to the west a little bit. the beaches by the way are officially closed but you can see a lot of folks out here, including little kids who are playing in the water and beyond them surfers who are taking advantage of the rough waves, 5 to 8-foot swells which could get bigger throughout the afternoon. isaias did far more damage so far down in the island. it lashed the bahamas with strong gusts, knocked down trees and power lines, flooded streets and in the state o dominican red puerto rico. florida's governor, rick scott, said he's grateful that

rick leventhal in atlantic beach, north carolina, adam klotz at the fox weather center. rain here 45 minutes ago but things obviously cleared up for now. we're told to expect much worse conditions as the night wears on. i want to show you atlantic beach which is completely empty here. we're about 70 miles north of wrightsville beach where a state of emergency has been declared. this area is under a hurricane watch as far as i know. they are expecting that isaias will strengthen from a tropical storm into a hurricane, if it hasn't already and potentially hit us here with the dirty side as category 1. as you look down the beach, some folks are enjoying the afternoon for now but the surf is very rough. red flags are flying. we can show you drone video we shot earlier of atlantic beach. it is relatively quiet on a day when you might have had a lot of folks out here. some are boarding up as they get ready for what could be a three to five foot storm surge and six to eight inches of pounding rain. there was a mandatory evacuation of oak can croak island north of us and that was

senior correspondent rick leventhal is live in windsor, north carolina on all that for us. ng. >> good morning, sandra. this is a roadblock here in the county, as close as sheriff's deputies will get to the scene, a few miles down the road. the wreckage is so bad they can't let anyone near it. crews are searching for the missing trying to secure the valuables littering the ground including generators and handguns. the sheriff has confirmed at least one fatality and at least three people missing. at least 10 homes completely destroyed. the aerial pictures are remarkable on how devastating the tornado touchdown was well north of where the storm first came ashore overnight. the sheriff believes it hit about 1:30 this morning and just ripped through that trailer park. at least 20 other people are hurt. we're told one trailer is unreachable because a tree is on it. we know that they are again searching for missing, searching for the possibility of more deaths. three people are unaccounted for at this hour. there were tornado warnings overnight as isaias was approaching the shore

rick leventhal, thank you. >> thank you. >> shannon: okay, we've got landfall coverage of hurricane andtinue. 24 hours ago, leland bitter was getting battered by heavy rain and intensifying winds and lake charles, louisiana, moving in. it tonight, assessing the massive and destructive impact the storm there has. what can you tell us tonight? >> shannon, and only got worse from when we talked last night. with daybreak this morning, the story becomes about two things. things you don't see which are lights, because the power is out and what you can't get, which is running water, here and lake charles. if so far, the death toll is at six and that's the number we know about. it could be weeks before any sense of normalcy returns to the community. still a category four hurricane, 30 miles in land, pouring through the bayou and slamming into lake charles. >> all you hear is gusts of wind. you know, debris flying, glass shattering, you know, would flying. you can't stick your head outside of the door. you might get struck by something. this reminds me of when i was living in new orleans and it

pete: rick leventhal. thank you for the update.of what rick was talking about, hurricane warrant warninn effect from the bahamas to north of daytona beach, that's where the hurricane warnings are in effect. we'll have the hurricane very close to the coast starting tonight, in throughout all day tomorrow, into tomorrow night. here's where it is right now across parts of the bahamas, a lot of action towards the east of it. it's fairly disorganized. there's been dry air getting into the center of it. that will prohibit it from strengthening certainly but also could cause it to weaken just a little bit as we move forward, which is good news that we aren't going to see any real significant strengthening. that said, you can see the radar starting to pick it up, radar goes out a couple hundred miles here, so can't go that far, starting to see some of that rain move in. that's from where the radar beam goes out. here's your track. you see tonight we start to get very close, maybe down towards around fort lauderdale and throughout the overn

jedediah: thanks so much, rick leventhal live on the scene in florida. g over to rick rei.hm jedediah: th. what is the latest? >> florida has been spared from significant hurricanes for a long time. it's good news because there's been so much population growth on the east coast since the last time they had a significant hurricane. this is another one of them we're going to be spared although take a look at this. this is radar image here and you see the last few images here, you start to see some lightning pop up so there is some storms that are brewing close to the center of the storm. that said, i still think it's battering a lot of conditions that are not going to make it favorable for any significant growth. you can also kind of see that on the satellite representation. a little bit of growth going on in the storm right now. we'll see if that translates into anything. i'm pretty doubtful. we'll watch a lot of dry air to the north, you can see where the track is, that brawn air, that's dray air in the atmosphere. that going to be a problem. a lot a lot
