here are the areas included in the red flag warning. all shaded in bright red, we can see the santa cruz mountains and north bay hills may continue to see gusts up to 50 miles per hour, and any fires may spread quickly. we'll have more updates on that. >>> mike, you have a crash heading one east bay bridge? >> yeah, the east carquinez bridge. it's more expensive backing up to highway 37 and cutting over through vallejo. with the backup forming this far back, some folks might chance it and look at highway 37, which is moving slowly. that will cause more of a jam, and that's traditionally a slow drive for the north bay. some schools are on holiday, and it could be a different flow of traffic right now. the bay bridge also has a wind advisory but i am more concerned about the build starting on the span, and nothing big at the toll plaza just yet. the south bay, san jose's first slowing has cleared up now and prepare for the next period of slowing. back to you. >> thanks. >>> we are celebrating international day of the girl. next here on "t

the windiest areas of the bay area will, of course, be the higher elevations where we could see gusts over 70 miles per hour. so that's why we have a red flag warning for the north bay and east bay mountains and that's the red area that we see on our map lower elevations have a wind advisory. so places like san francisco, we can see gusts get up to 40 miles per hour. so checkcng in on our current wind conditions right now. stationary winds are less than this gusts in hayward just 10 miles per hour. looking light the south bay. so these are pretty typical numbers. but we do see overnight. it starts to ircrease. here's a look at our numbers in the morning and the windiest part of tomorrow will be the afternoon and you see the pink on tour there that is gusts hitting over 40 miles per hour. notice the directions of the winds. it's coming from the north because we have a cold front that will be sweeping through the bay area by night time and into tuesday morning is when we'll start to see those wind speeds go down. but in the meantime, if you have anything outdoors, you might want to tye

hospitalizations are going down across the bay area. you can see the chart right here, it shows hospitalizations in santa clara, as an example, which shows their hospitalizations dropping steadily for a few weeks now. finally, 80% of the area's population, including kids must be fully vaccinated. however, if a county is not yet at 80% and this is eight weeks after a vaccine for kids is approved, health officers say they will drop the mask rules as well as the other requirements are met. this doctor says it makes sense. >> i think we're in the right direction. we're not going to be turning back. >> reporter: yesterday, the alameda county office of education pointed out the new criteria do not apply to mask indoors in the schools, and the state is supposed to review its mask mandate for students before the end of the month. bob redell, today in the bay. >>> the mayor's office announced yesterday restrictions will be lifted inside offices, gyms, religious gatherings and college classrooms. the new rules will not apply to places unvaccinated

we talk about people wanting to leave the bay area. u really seeing that on the ground level working in real estate? >> not really. there are a lot -- there are some people who have left and there are people who have come. actually, honestly, so in a lot of ways what has happened is people are just being able to live where they want to live, and a lot of people really love the cities. i mean people want to be close to restaurants and they want to be close to music and things like that. so people are not necessarily living -- leaving. sometimes they're going out a little bit more to sort of the suburban/urban areas where there's likely a little bit more space. you know, in the east bay, that's why the east bay in particular has experienced huge gains in the last year. people wanted more yard space but they still wanted all of those things that you get in the cities. >> okay. well, lisa blackwell, sometimes i think we like to grumble about it but ultimately we love it here and like to stay here. thank you for your time tonight. >> thank y

and that is for the entire bay area. so for the north bay, the flash flood watches for the burn zone areas of 2024 sonoma as well as napa counties, and it starts early sunday morning goes until late sunday night. for the santa cruz mountains. it starts sunday afternoon goes until 11 o'clock in the evening again for the burn zones in the santa cruz area, and then this stretch that is governed by the sacramento national weather service includes a flood watch for parts of solano county that starts late saturday night, and we'll go into monday so several inches of rain expected, all said, and done for some of us. and the wind advisory with winds expected about 45 mph at times throughout the bay area in our hills could see winds even stronger than that 55 to 60 or so that is what is on the horizon for sunday. here's a look at the rest of tonight and into tomorrow morning. we do start out with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies may be a little bit of drizzle. but you can see not a big deal. we're still dry. that as we get int

here's what happened at the bay area airports. e alone there was 61 cancelations on saturday, and then oakland 74 cancelations. we met up with travelers here, and southwest said the chaos was triggered by weather and air traffic control issues in florida, and that trickled over starting friday evening, but not all travelers are buying that explanation. >> what was confusing to me if it's weather related why are all the other airlines operating. so it just seemed like a mess. >> they said don't try and rebook it because it will be wednesday before you can, you know, get to your destination. >> so both southwest and the southwest pilots association debunked rumors that pilots called in sick to protest the mandatory covid vaccination effort, however we can report on friday a union for southwest 9,000 pilots asked a federal court intervened until a lawsuit is settled related to the mandated vaccine. at this point we did check in with the staff here at mineta san jose, and they say it's too early to tell if there will be more fallout to

area bridges. tonight, we could see a chance of rain in parts of the bay area this weekend. how often do i get to say that. >> hopefully really often. >> let's hope. >> over the next several months or your case, a couple weeks. any way, we are going to be seeing changes, starting with saturday, a continuation of our warm weather pattern. going to last one more day, the area of warm air shifts away. the storm system shifting, much cooler, 15 degrees cooler and we will see a chance of owers, lefofirst, future cast in motion, we will see clouds to start the day on sunday. not overcast but more clouds than sunshine for most of us. the first shower is just approaching the coun by midday with sonoma the best chance of showers moving into the north bay as we head into middle afternoon and eventually in the early evening hours, you see on the radar, it does not look impressive, and it is not going to be overly impressive. the best chance of measurable rain north of the golden gate. we are talking about a few/100th to 1/10th of an inch of rain and higher terrain than the peninsula. ot

so if you're in the area and you see smoke. the smoke should be visible in large part a sonoma county. so don't be alarmed. then again, a controlled burn that got out of control in santa cruz county is burning and it's a 140 acres so far. but it is 60% contained. so they're making some progress on the u.s. try to fire, which is near watsonville it jumped containment lines on friday and cal fire says even though this fire is still threatening structures and power lines. the evacuation orders were reduced from warnings down. they were orders. they reduced to warnings over the weekend. and then there is the fireworks. we're covering in southern california. this is the one happening in santa barbara, this has been burning for about a week and the update is it's 78% contain. >> dallas. all fire started last monday it's burned nearly 27 square miles. and right now is threatening about 400 homes and other structures. >> well, we have new video out of pta showing the moments during an officer-involved shooting. so here's the video. this

here comes out front right into the bay area. t as a runs of that ridge of high pressure that low swirling off the coastline, bringing all those clouds. our way as we head in toward the latter part of the weekend. so here it is a lauren forecast model. you see some of those clouds continue to rotate through maybe bring a slight chance of showers as we get into a friday morning, then that system scoots on by high pressure builds in the winters offshore getting a little gusty, i think sunday night in the money. we'll have to watch gut for potential for high fire danger as we get into early next week. but also notice some snow developing over the mountain tops over the s4erra nevada going to see that may be on friday night as well. so something to watch out for. if you head to the high country. it's no more messing around up there. a chance some snow and temperatures in the tahoe area dropping down low 30's overnight over the weekend for the bay area with a lot of sunshine coming our way on saturday and sunday the next couple days, a

pretty wet around the bay area. specially the southern half of the bay area toward the golden gate bridge got a mix of fog in a couple showers out there now. yeah. you want to take it easy out there rainfall totals get more impressive as we go through time here now, the past 24 hours, more than an inch and a half in the can't feel san anselmo knowles and it's into tenths fremont. about a 3rd of an inch. san francisco over a quarter of an inch over a 3rd now 1500's in oakland and some of the mountains around the bay area in the north bay easily over an inch of rain in some places over 2 inches of rain in parts of and sonoma county. so that is a nice start to the wet season. we've got a long way to go as we've got a series of storms coming our way this right now just kind of dragging through here. it's kind of an interesting event overnight tonight as we don't have really a good dynamic triggered a get all the moisture of the atmosphere. there's a lot of moisture that is flowing overhead. these clouds but not a real go
