director christopher wray sounding the alarm a few months ago. >> violence against law enforcement in this country is one of the biggest phenomenons that doesn't get enough attention. an alarming percentage of the 73 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty last year were killed through things like being ambushed. or shot while out on patrol. they were killed because they were police officers. wearing the badge shouldn't make you a target. >> harris: jason rantz joining me now. we often get together and talk about the problems who got us here. today the focus in the senate hearing is how do we get out of it? >> it seems pretty simple. you can protect cops by rolling back laws or policies that make their jobs more dangerous. jobs that are already dangerous. put a ban on pursuits. severe restrictions on use of force and criminals know that. when you have prosecutors who refuse to offer sentencing enhancements for gang members or for the use of guns or drive bys, that has an impact. you should bring back cash bail to keep some of the criminals in jail where they belong. and st

why would christopher wray wait until thursday?ecific letter was from suspected allegations. has she called you yet and said listen senator i need to explain this to you? have you heard from him? >> i waited for six or maybe longer than that, months to have a telephone conversation with ray. what finally got me that telephone conversation with this, went information that's the special agent, when his information came to me, i issued a press release and then it finally got a phone call with ray. but before i got that phone call, this is a small complement to ray, maybe he wants to do the right thing. he moved him out of that position of deciding what investigations go ahead and which ones are stopped. now where he is reassigned and what his responsibilities are, i do not know. but presumably he is being investigated for some violation. but we need more than that. we need a concrete program by ray. we need that thursday when he appears before our committee that he is going to make sure none of this political bias ever happens again.

i do want to play for you what fbi director christopher wray told my colleague, our colleague evan perez about charging people in connection with january 6th. take a listen. >> does that mean anybody who was involved at all levels? >> so we're going to follow the facts wherever they lead no matter who likes it. we're going to follow the law, and proper predication. there have been, i think, 840 or so people charged, and i think there have been about 300 or so people who have already pled guilty. i'm going to let the facts speak for themselves as the investigations develop, and if there are charges against individuals, the public will see that through the charges that the justice department brings. >> elie, you have been outspoken and at times critical of the justice department's investigation into january 6th. when you listen to what the fbi director said there, translate it for me. what was your takeaway from that statement? >> well, phil, this is the standard talking point we've heard from leaders of doj and the fbi, and to be fair, it's all they can say. they can't give us details abo
