of laws that democratic governors can pass in their states. to strengthen access to abortion here in california governor newsom, for instance, recently signed legislation protecting abortion providers from liability. new york local signed bills to protect out of state patients and providers from lawsuits in other states that have been abortion. now this virtual meeting comes after mr biden returned from a six day trip to europe. he was asked about abortion and talked about the possibility of eliminating the filibuster in the senate. i believe we have to codify roe v. wade in the law and the way to do that is to make sure that congress votes to do that. and if the filibuster gets in the way, it's like voting rights. it should be. we provide an exception for this. now the filibuster is a senate procedural rule that allows the minority party to block legislation. there's nothing in the law or the constitution that requires it. even so, it's not clear that all democrats would agree to eliminate it. democratic senators joe manchin and kirsten cinema have previously said they do not favor removing that filibuster, but on the state level, the supreme court decision last week did allow states to set their own rule
