joining us now is cornell belcher, greg bluestein. e weeks long like the last georgia runoff. how is that playing into how these campaigns are preparing for the 6th of december? >> first of all, it's great for georgia voters. we get to enjoy our christmas and new year's eve and hanukkahs without the campaign ads. but, of course, our thanksgivings will be ruined. there's been no days of rest here. you already saw campaigns hitting the campaign trail again just yesterday on thursday. usually you would see a quieter period right now where the candidates are mostly focused on fund-raising. they're still focused on fund-raising but we've seen the first ads, campaign trail appearances and it's only going to ramp up from here. >> what are these new ads like? are they different than what we saw before the 8th. >> we saw one that's a little bit different. it trots out the same argument that we've seen throughout this campaign that senator warnock is equal to joe biden in the republican view. they're trying to link him to joe biden because joe b

let's discuss and bring back greg bluestein, political reporter for the atlanta journal-constitution, an nbc political contributor. you know georgia better than anyone i know. talk to us about this turnout search. compared to past elections. >> well, it's record-breaking. just over 300,000 people voted on today alone. the chatters the former record. it was about 233,000 voters before. and look, this is good news for democrats in particular. tens of thousands of those -- highly democratic areas like metro atlanta, savannah, augusta this, this is all areas where democrats are hoping to build -- those social some high turnout in republican leaning areas to, especially in rural georgia. paul county in particular. that's the georgia can plea that's a bastion of republican support that one of the highest turnouts in the state. >> talk to us about young voters. i know you went to the dave matthews concert tonight. he performed an event for warnock and i'm not sure young people go for dave. 46, i'd say he's my jam. but a lot of really young people are out there waiting in those long lines. >>

greg bluestein, take me inside the holiday weekend of voting. >> well, we had a huge number of earlyan 150,000 people voted, mostly in heavily democratic areas in metro atlanta. this tends to favor senator warnock's campaign in a big way. so they feel like they've built a early cushion of votes throughout this week. we're seeing another explosion of early votes today, the first day where all 159 counties are offering early votes. we'll see what the numbers bear out. but it's a record-setting pace so far here in georgia. >> greg, you have some great reporting you've put out in a tweet. it says this. "roughly 200,000 voters backed kemp in the november midterms but wouldn't and didn't support walker. those split decisions were the biggest reason the senate race went into overtime and will play a decisive role in the december 6th runoff." is there a history in runoffs where if the candidate no matter the party didn't get over the line in the general that the turnout goes up in a runoff? >> no. and usually we see candidates running in runoffs basically play to their bases. the lowest hang

joining me now is greg bluestein, msnbc political contributor. r the atlanta journal-constitution. and author of flipped, how georgia turned purple and broke the monopoly on republican power. greg, good to see you, welcome back. let's get into this because campaigning, as you know for this runoff, that certainly underway already. so, who's coming to georgia to boost warnock and walker? i was asking my correspondent, antonia hylton, about that. she says, the campaign has not really gotten back to the details. do you know any? >> yeah, i expect both senator warnock and herschel walker to bring in all sorts of high-level surrogates. this week alone, we've seen ted cruz, we will see rick scott, we will see other republicans, u.s. senators, who really want to win that seat. to flip control of the chamber. come here to georgia. then senator warnock is going to bring his surrogates as well. i won't be shocked to see former president, barack obama, come back to georgia. he was just your few weeks ago. i won't be shocked to see him come back because you mi

let's bring in political reporter for the "atlanta journal-constitution," greg bluestein, also memberk times" editorial board, mara gay, and reverend al sharpton is still with us as well. >> greg, quite an ad, letting herschel walker's words try to speak for themselves. just going around in circles. man, the images this weekend from georgia, those lines were crazy. it looks like a lot of people very interested in this special election. what can you tell us? >> well, there's a turnout surge. senator warnock had half a dozen events over metro atlanta, rallying voters to the polls, and the turnout was huge, 156,000 voters cast ballots this weekend, mostly in metro atlanta and other democratic leaning areas. democrats are confident. meanwhile, herschel walker didn't have any public events, and that's why democrats are confident, banking votes to give them a cushion. >> have you talked to republican leaders, republicans politicians in the state? is there any evidence? this isn't like a leading question for the msnbc crowd. i'm just generally curious. are republicans concerned about a lack

. >> but the reason walker is in this situation, what i understand from greg bluestein, is that 200,000sover vote wasn't there in november. what has changed for the walker candidacy? >> reporter: not much has changed. the question is could the likes of a brian kemp potentially convince those 200,000 georgians that say, hey, give him a shot. we're talking about a six-year term. do you want a conservative representing you on a capitol hill? this is a conservative state. i think governor kemp's election results would indicate that.tha. there was 80,000 individuals in the u.s. senate race that voted for the libertarian. another 15,000 plus didn't vote in the senate race at all. raphael warnock bested herschel walker by 38,000 votes in the runoff here. walker's seen as hopeful that also at this go around you'll recall in 2020 there was a president of the united states that questioned whether voting would matter and you had lynwood stumping around georgia and their votes wouldn't matter. you don't see that at play here now. at the same time, it is a mistake to suggest that democrats will not
