you have someone like mike evans, a very well respected economist saying he thinks of 50 from point rate hike is expected. they will say we need to cement our inflation fighting credentials. 7.3% year-over-year, that is awfully high. where is everybody else says they need everyone. if they do another 25 basis point hike and decide there something they don't like about the way things look, inflation expectations are rising, maybe wages are looking a little stronger. they can always refer to the 50 basis point hike. thing they want signal, they will make it clear that they still have farther to go than they are now. it is pretty much a done deal. it will be interesting to see if they were to do the 50 and to signal a more aggressive tone, what that might do to the australian bond market. we saw a selloff and a rally. it seems to me that from bill lowe has not been one that seems to lend itself toward aggressiveness, toward feeling like he has to really speed things up right now. 25 basis points now seems like a sure bet. the numbers would suggest the need to keep tightening further. the yi

was an expected win, this is utah it wasn't as easy as the mike lee campaign thought it would be there's really two reasons for that one, evanullin, his opponent is ain'tn independent. he was pulling from moderate republicans. they're really upset with mike lee about his actions before, during and after january 6 as it relates to election denialism and his trying to overthrow the results of the 2020 election this has been an incredibly expensive race, actually the most expensive political race in utah history millions of dollars coming from around the country, groups throwing negative ads into the state, really making it a nasty race, and mike lee's victory speech, he talked about how he wants to have accountability on the amount of money the government spends, and he also talked about the idea that he really wants to have some serious oversight hearings when it comes to the new senate in january. >> gary, were you also recently there in oregon. in addition to you covering utah, following that race there, it's too close to call, what you have heard >> this is another really interesting race that is sort of thrown into flux b

mike lee? was that the thought? >> look, evan mcmullin is a known independent. he ran as you said as an independent for president in 2016. people know him. democrats in my lifetime have never competed in the u.s. senate race. i'm 48 years old. we've never even -- usually we lose by 30 to 40%. evan mcmull lynn gets in mcmullin gets in the race and said i want to run a coalition. now we have a battleground race in the state of utah. >> i'm curious about how that balance of power question can be resolved because he has said look, he's not going to caucus if mcmullin were to win. he wouldn't caucus with democrats or republicans. that is in contrast to say an angus king or bernie sanders, both of whom are independents but chose to caucus with democrats. that wouldn't necessarily be the case. did that factor into your decision to support him and is it factors into the minds of voters? >> utah democrats know evan mcmullin is an independent. we also know who mike lee is. mike lee conspired with president trump to insert fake electors and try to overturn the will of the

and it is interesting, for a couple of reasons, first, secretary mike lee actually voted for evan mcmullented evan mcmullen in 2016. and therefore, the presidential race, that is interesting for itself, but also this is interesting because evan mcmullen is in a tight race, and getting support from democrats and republicans and independents and pulling some of the votes from republicans including some from senator mike lee's supporters. so that's very interesting there. and we also heard some voters from around the country, they are saying a lot of the issues that matter to them are issues that matter to them here in salt lake city. here is what some folks had to say. >> women should have a right to choose what they want to do with their body. >> the inflation, and state of the economy and the upcoming high prices on gas, i think those are important. >> i'm not fed up with the politics, i'm fed up with the ads that fuels the politics. again, that's what it is all about. this is a democracy. >> and this has become utah's most expensive political race in history. millions of dollars from cons

in utah republican senator mike lee is defending his seat against independent challenger evan mcmullin claims that if he wins, he won't caucus with either party. but according to a recent article from "the wall street journal,"s mcmullin has, quote, raised money from democrats, and the state party declined to run its own candidate. joining me right now with what's at stake in tuesday's midterms is utah senator mike lee. senator, good to see you this morning. thanks so much for being here. >> thank you. maria: so what do you think? is evan mcmullin an independent or a democrat? >> he's about as much of an independent as i am a democrat. he actively courted, sought and obtained the exclusive endorsement o. democratic party, he's raised millions of dollars from the democratic party. he spent that money using consul about thes who exclusively serve democratic candidates, having voted for joe biden and encouraged other people to do i. so, look, if it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck and has webbed feet like a duck, in this case, it's a democrat. that's what evan mcmullin is. mari

evan. maybe tonight we do get an official winner here, mike. the latest results from the county registrar in the next couple hours. there are 2000 remaining countywide votes. ballots i should say that they will post but it's unclear how many of those are oakland voters as it stands shanked how is leading lauren taylor by a mere 680 votes? we're down to just the last few votes countywide. almost two weeks after election day, the alameda county registrar is finally wrapping up vote counting in the oakland mayor's race. it's been a dramatic back and forth between two candidates towel and lauren taylor taylor initially lead in first place votes. but after ranked choice votes were calculated, made a strong comeback and took the lead last week. so yeah, you know, we always like to say that every vote counts, so it's important that we get all of them in, especially on these close races. registrar tim dew point. said the office was counting a final batch of ballots early monday. but there are still 2500 ballots from across the county with signature iss

doj is seeking testimony from former vice president mike pence and that pence is open to some level of cooperation. cnn senior justice correspondent evan perez is on the story for us. evi evan, what indications do we have pence could comply with the request? >> i think what you're hearing from people around the former vice president is that first of all, this is a criminal investigation and so he can't just reject out of hand a request from the prosecutors but they do, i think, want to reach some kind of accommodation where by, you know, they can negotiate for him to appear and provide some kind of interview. that would be the ideal way by perhaps they limit the questions he can answer. you know, of course, the former vice president just published a book in which he describes a lot of his interactions with the former president around this key period right after the election up to january 6th and thereafter and you can bet that that's what the justice department wants to talk about. >> but he did reject out of hand testifying in front of the january 6th congressional committee. let's listen to him speaking about that recently. >> yeah.

become the de facto candidate for never-trump republicans and democrats, evan mcmullen now, right on the verge, potentially, of beating mike lee. is mike lee the favorite of that race now? he is, but it's not with -- if you look at all the numbers and what you're hearing out of utah, not inconceivable that mcmullen could pull that out. not inconceivable that mike lee could lose his seat. the last one i'll give you is gretchen whitmer, who ever since dobbs has been seen as a shoo-in in michigan and at times has lead by double digits. finally she finds herself in a very close race and under 50, also. causing al of concern among a lot of democrats. there's a reason why barack obama is in michigan over the weekend, and it's because he and his people like a lot of democrats are suddenly concerned about gretchen whitmer and the secretary of state, jocelyn benison, and the attorney general, dana nessel, who are bound together on the anti-election denial front. those are some surprises looking out for. it's going to be a wild night and a wild week or who after that night, you'll see. and you'll see some surprises are going to come

mike mibach. many in the community want to know more about her plan to address gun violence and other crimes in oakland, ktvu evannoffsky explains why the mayor elect believes she can help push the city in the right direction. we must feel the vacancies in our police department with experience and diverse and home grown officers. oakland mayor elect xiang tao outlined her strategy wednesday for tackling crime as the city continues to grapple with street violence and public safety challenges, redoubling our efforts to get guns off our streets, she said she doesn't plan to shake up policing strategies but rather expand on programs that oakland has had to success within the past. like ceasefire that involves doubling down on the violence prevention programs that we now know reduces violent crime. oakland has had 100 11 homicides so far this year, a dip from the 124 killings this time last year. oakland police officials say that's in part due to a recent all hands approach to combating crime. we've seen decreases in our homicides 26% decrease in shootings. decreases in robberies with significant

you have evan mcmullen out there in utah taking on mike lee.ot will turn out to be very, very close. we should be proud of it. no speech needed here. just a great democracy. and we should point to it, we want close elections, we want people to get excited about who they are going to vote for. >> jen, let's talk about the ticket splitting which seemed to be out of favor for a while, but yet we're seeing it right now potentially in a couple states this cycle. georgia where there is the republican incumbent for governor unfairly sizably while the senate race is dead even. and then pennsylvania where we have the democrat candidate for governor unfairly decisively, senate rate very close. fetterman up a couple points in that poll. what do you make of this, is this coming back this fashion or just a few specific individual candidates? >> yeah, and we don't know. and this is such an interesting trend to watch or possible trend to watch. i think in these races it could go one way or the other. one is the person who is running better, so in pennsylvania

mike lee seeking a third term. the republican in that state, he was facing a challenge from evan mcmullin, the indiana. alker, 95% of the vote in. to nevada, we do actually have some numbers to group date this. katherine cortez masto, 54%. adam laxalt, 43%. approaching half the vote in. and clark county isn't fully accounted for. clark county largely believed to be the place because it's the home of las vegas, many union workers. if katherine cores remasto is able to pull this out given the polling, it would likely be clark county. this race has a long way to go. nds, the incumbent senator mark kelly seeking his first full term. you can see there leading blake masters. a sizable lead early on. we're waiting for more information on the areas where this vote is coming from and who is left to be tabulated. mark kelly, got to be happy with at least an early lead with blake masters. another very close race is in wisconsin. the senate race there. ron johnson, the incumbent, leading but very slightly, a little more than 1% with 88% of the vote in. the vote that's still not fully accounted for is the vote in an
