we both had the early part of our careers at the miami herald, a decade ago, where we worked, we worked together quite a bit. robert was responsible for me coming to the washington post, spent several years trying to recruit me and get people to hire me at the post and was very dog about it. we had a sense of rapport and knew each other for a long time. we had not spent a lot of time reporting together. i had been covering the white house, different supporting gig. is a high metabolism and always rushing and don't take the time to do the kinds of "in depth" reporting robert gets to do so i don't think we ever worked together on a piece, it was interesting and well written. and he talked to people about how policy impacted them. i was often following president obama, writing about the latest things that happened at the moment but when i got to be part of this team, one of the lead writers on the first article that put forward the statement for the project and bits and pieces of other pieces that would be coming along and delved into george floyd's family history. when the idea came for t
