c. c t. v video shows the moment police officers tasted and beat tyran nichols. during his arrest after a traffic stop. 5 officers faced several charges including murder and kidnapping. well, from all that, so speak to gabriel at his on the he joins us live from memphis. gabriel, a distressing video with fears of the reaction. that's right. i'm actually in downtown memphis right now. and on a normal friday night, this would be bustling with activity of people at restaurants and some of the shops here. but as you can see, with the exception of this trolley car behind me, it is very quiet. it's totally deserted. and that's because there was real fears of potential violent protests that could break out after this video was released. so a lot of these businesses simply closed down early for the night. but as you can tell that the situation is, is very quiet on the street here. and those fears have not been realized that the video very much though is very troubling. i'm sure that video, certainly very troubling. what we've seen is what appeared to be a routine traffic stop turn into something very violent when police officers in circled tyree nichols the 29 year old father of 4 and beat him relentlessly for several minutes as he cried for help. he suffered injuries, he was taken to a hospital critical condition and died. 3 days later, all 5 officers involved were fired from the force and also arrested and face criminal charges. and gabriel does the video reveal more about the apparent circumstances that lead to the violence it does, it's a long video. it's in 4 separate clips and well over 30 minutes long. it appears to be an initial traffic stop. at least that's what the police claim. but they've pulled tyree nichols out of the car and tackled him to the ground. he was clearly asking for some help. he then ran off and fled, but on foot, his lawyers and his family members say he fled because he was scared of what the police could do to him. later, 5 other police officers caught him in a residential neighborhood on a dark street. it was actually only about a block away from where his mother lives. and that is where the real violence occurred when they tackled him to the ground and beat him relentlessly with a baton and also kicking him as he cried out for his mother. that seems to be what the video shows, but it's not only that, it's also appears that after this several of the paramedics that arrived were very slow to render any aid as well. all of this certainly is going to be part of an investigation and potentially a trial. if these 5 police officers plead not guilty and it does go to a trial, which is probably expected to happen. gabriel, thanks for that update in memphis. will their behinds is a trial lawyer for what? baltimore prosecutor and maryland assistant attorney general, she joined the sly from baltimore, maryland by scott, welcome to the programmer. firstly, what are your thoughts? having seen this distressing video? you know, i watched all or parts of the video, it's very difficult to put it in words. i mean it's, sometimes things are just so rick, so brutal that you cannot even make a word or sentence to describe it. but what it did show is these police officers could showed man's inhumanity towards band. it looked as if, if to put it in the best perspective, as if they were animals attacking another animal. because that's what it really look like. mister nichols is very frail, he's 63 and he's 100. he was a 140 pounds and these are 5 heavy officers that were kicking him, beating him, beating him with their baton, punching him like he was a punching bag. one officer kicked mister nichols so hard that at the end he was limping from all the kicking that he had done to mister nichols body. they take him so much that the officers ended up having to pour water over their eyes because it was so much hazy of mister nichols. it is just no way to put it in words how thick this video was. but thank god for the really the c t v video because with the police body camps showed a lot of movement. it didn't always show what was really happening, but the overhead cam cetera. one of the street that are this basically there to detect crime and let's be clear, this was a crime that occurred. that's where we actually were able to see what the officers were doing to him. but he was able to forgive me even with the knowledge of all the these cameras, this incident still occurred. is there a certain culture in sections of the police force that's hard to shake off? well, that's the whole problem in general, and i don't want to paint every police officer as today because there is no every you're all in any profession that's bad. but there definitely is a culture that is rooted in the police department that did not just start with george floyd that did not start with rodney king. it started long before that. and that culture is very ingrained in the police department. and that's why you saw that these police officers w
