nbc news correspondent dana griffin joins us now on this. tell us where those search efforts stand right now. >> reporter: the u.s. coast guard says they have no new updates on today's search. they have been focused on 2,500 square miles, and it's been days since husband and wife frank and carrie o'brien and their friend william gross set sail off the coast of mazatlan. it should have taken three days, but the trio hasn't been heard from since tuesday, april 4th. the pings show the boat calling into cabo san lucas. they planned to stop in for supplies, but the coast guard says there's no record of them arriving. now the group was traveling on the o'briens' v vessel called "oceanbound," and they do not believe they had enough food or fuel on board which is whyhy they are aggressively pursuing this searcrch and rescueue. the families of those lost sailors are hopeful that their experience at sea will help them make a safe return home, and as you mentioned, the three have a combined 100 years of sailing experience. the o'briens are even license
