this is near the dmv. firefighters quickly started working to rescue that worker, who was buried under eight feet of dirt and debris. they brought in an urban search and rescue dog to pinpoint his location. crews also used a vacuum truck to siphon out some of that dirt. after two hours, they finally reached him, but paramedics and a doctor pronounced that man dead at the scene. tonight several agencies led by cal/osha are trying to determine what went wrong. >> we want to make sure we know exactly what happened. we want to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. we never want a construction accident. safety is our number one priority. >> the city's public works department says the man was part of a private construction crew, so he was a contractor. he was working on one of the city's sewer upgrade projects. the puc, the public utilities commission, identified the company as san francisco-based darcy and hardy construction. that construction company has not yet identified the worker who died. >>
