it was 1921 and a white mob rampaged through tulsa's greenwood district. also known as blackwell street. now, all of this over false accusations of a 19-year-old black teen assaulting a white 16-year-old girl. the rampage would later be known as the tulsa race massacre. explosives were tossed from airplanes, people being shot dead and more than a 1000 black homes and businesses reduced to ashes. at the time there were at least 36 people killed, but many historians today think that number is up to about 300 people who may have been murdered in the brutal attacks. for decades, viola fletcher never publicly spoke about what she had witnessed with anyone, fearful that she might be attacked for speaking out. then, in may of 2020, she was tracked down by solomon simmons, who convinced her to join a civil lawsuit, demanding reparations for her and the last two remaining known survivors of the destruction. now, the century long fight is with the oklahoma supreme court joining me now to discuss is simmons, a national civil rights attorney. mario, thank you so much
