insurrection, leaving the us supreme court now to fill those gaps, colorado secretary of state jenna griswold joins us now. good to have you on tonight. i couldn't think of a better night to have you on given what supreme court watchers believe will hear tomorrow, it doesn't reveal ahead of time which opinion to expect, but there's a lot of analysis that given super tuesday is just 48 hours away, this will be what they decide on what are you expecting? >> well, thanks for having me on jim, it's always great to join you. and i can tell you, i hope it's the decision and you're right. a lot of folks think that it will be the colorado decision as to whether or not trump has disqualified himself i had hoped for this decision last week, the week before, because our ballots actually went out several weeks ago. and over 400,000 ballots have already been returned for the republican presidential primary. at the end of the day, coloradans, and americans deserve to know as they go into super tuesday whether trump is a qualified candidate or not. >> let me ask you this. you of course, listen to the oral a

that language that jenna griswold is parroted by justices sotomayor, kagan, and jackson. they wrote, they go beyond the necessities of this case, to bar an oath-breaking insurrectionist, the same language jenna griswold uses, from becoming president. while the decision goes out of its way not to say anything at all about whether donald trump, in fact, violated his oath or participated or committed insurrection, you've got the three liberal justices here characterizing this case in a way that suggests they believe that he is. i also want to say something if i can, about why the decision went further than just finding as all nine justices did, that states don't have the power to enforce section 3. it's because if you find that the states can't and that they don't have that power which is not present in the text of the constitution, you've got to find a reason why, and they seem to have hung their hat, at least in part on section 5 of the 14th amendment which says that congress shall have the power to enforce by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. it now

joining me now is colorado secretary of state jenna griswold.in this instance i am sorry that we have to have this conversation. i have to ask first of all how are you and your family doing? do you feel like your safety is the most important thing right now? >> good morning or good afternoon. depending on the time zone. happy easter. it is unfortunate to have this conversation. i think it's necessary because the bigger picture is that anybody who stands up to them as barraged with threats and a lot of us standing up happened to be women, so they are not only violent but sexist in nature. make no mistake this is a part of the strategy to spend as much disinformation as possible to pass the voter suppression laws and to try to scare them out of their positions. we have seen the threats to election workers be somewhat successful. here in colorado alone we had a 38% turnover of elected county clerks since 2020 in part because of the vitriol. so we cannot allow this strategy to go unchecked or unnoticed. that is why i think it's important to have the
