there is still quite a few players in the market the smaller ones and people wonder is warren buffett going to buy an entire builder outright, what are your thoughts. >> i think buffett has been pretty aggressive in terms of acquiring builders if they have nine under berkshire hathaway will be within the top five if you look at the aggregate volume that they have but as it goes to buying a public company. i'm not so sure there is appetite for that but there is consolidation happening, then arat they acquired one of the top 20 builders in the southeast and what were continuing to see is a consolidation of publix accounting for more than 50% of the market share of the new home market. when i covered the space 30 years ago it was high single digits. they've done a great job of growing organically and outperforming as well as acquisition but i'm not so sure we will see consolidation within the public arena. jack: thank you so much. it'll be interesting to see when people sell their own homes and then this market can get going. right now a lot of gridlock. >> thank you so much for having m

i moe everyone is talking about the buffett indicator.here's a lot to worry about if you worry we are over our skis >> we always worry i worry when i don't worry because that means i'm being complacent if you look since the election, the s&p is up 5.5% the nasdaq is up 6.7%. these are big, big numbers i think it's because it's healthy because we have a strong economy. 3.3% is what the current rating is this quarter. we will do 2.5% for 3% which is amazing. you have good growth it's an expectation of more growth coming next year. maybe it's not an acceleration but maybe it's just kind of a 2.5%, 3% environment we are in from the trump administration. there's a lot we don't know. growth is there. it's being driven by that very healthiest part of gdp, the consumer the consumer continues to hang in because even though today's jobs numbers were mixed, overall we had decent job numbers. initial claims and adp services. there's a lot of moving parts. wages are good for the consumer. i know it's hot on inflation 4% is a healthy number for the con

the late, great jimmy buffett as you look at mid iftown manhattan.ple on the streets there, but it's christmas week. it's quiet. and i hope to you all at home are enjoying it. it is 11 a.m. on the east coast on this friday, december the 27th. i'm ashley webster in today for stu varney. let's check these markets, down on the dow now, 383 points. we're still, i believe, yep, we're still positive for the week on the dow. s&p down 1.25%, the nasdaq down nearly 2% but having said all of that, all three major indices are still higher for this christmas week. the big tech names are actually leading us lower today. they're leading the stocks lower, you could say. all of the big ones are down, apple, alphabet, microsoft, amazon, nvidia. nvidia down nearly 3%, amazon down 2.33%. and take a quick look at the 10-year treasury yield. this always kind of gives us a clue of how equities are doing, and sure enough it's right there at 4.59%, up nearly 1 basis point. that is a headwind for stocks as well. >>> all right, now this, according to new polling only 39% of a

as good a return as the indexes do but you can make adjustments and you can do small things warren buffett has been trimming positions. we believe right now is a good time to trim stocks that have run too much there are things like giving appreciated stocks to your favorite charities, this year, you can get a full tax deduction on an appreciated stock without paying the capital gains, get the deduction this year. we would advise doing that, and frankly, i would advise going down the risk spectrum taking some beta off the table the nice thing is one industry that's gotten beaten up is the health care industry with people being worried about kennedy coming in, and so there are a lot of less cyclical health care stocks that are more attractive. on the margin, take risk off maybe even increase your cash. give to your favorite charity. and don't add more at the top. >> that's so interesting because to go into health care, which, again, has been such a laggard, kind of such a hated space, but i know you're a traditional value investor, what do you do with names like apa, do you hang on, do you n

not benefiting too much today but that did not stop warren buffett. out another piece of news crossing the wire. big lots. back in september, the company said it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in delaware and had sought to sell -- it tried to stelter nexis capital management but the sale had fallen apart. it is now sitting it agrees to a transaction with gordon brothers retail partners. . it will transfer assets to other companies including variety wholesalers. that would include more than 400 retail stores owned by variety retailers absorbing more big lot assets. a really interesting moment. one of my favorite screens on the terminal is bcy. those are bankruptcy filings. big lots was the third largest bankruptcy filing by assets in the united states. the fifth largest by liability. pretty large. only to be followed by spirit. another much larger one. there were a lot of bankruptcies. a lot of pain in the consumer discretionary sector. when you look at the s&p 500, that is where you are seeing the largest bid come in. only the largest will survive. v

dani: warren buffett moving some equities this morning.athaway had made. these shares rallied on friday. happening again today. he's sitting on a paper loss on this equity since he started buying shares of it two years ago. he owns nearly one third of the company. eli lilly also off the back of one fda approval for the weight loss shot used for sleep apnea. this is the only drug on the market approve for sleep apnea. everything else is more mechanisms. it works because of the weight loss that it causes. this might help them get more insurance to cover it. qualcomm had been alleging it was violating its terms of agreement. anyway, qualcomm has won that lawsuit. the judge saying it is well within the right to do so. back to you. scarlett: we will check in with her a little bit later on. honda and nissan taking their first steps for a merger. a holding company would be created to house the new entity. this would create one of the world's biggest carmakers and compete with toyota, also chinese ev automakers. that is the big one. annmarie: that

part of what you did was take $5 billion in cash from warren buffett.arter that he's been cutting his stake in the company. i think he sold something like 200 million shares. he's still the last we've seen in the public filings had 9.99% stake in the company. still a major holder. dune why he's selling? have you spoken with him? >> i have not. that wouldn't be right. >> i'd ask him. >> you can ask him. that's your job. at the end of the day, he made two investments in the company. he made one in 2011 and for the first time he told me the first time he's ever done it. he made another major investment in '18, '19. that's a higher basis. he sold that down. he came to us in 2011, called me up, he's reported on it. he said, i want to put 5 billion in your company. from that day it was up as much or more than he is frankly in terms of economic value. he did it to stabilize the company. at that point we had 260,000 people, whatever it was. they all came back to work. the best investor put it behind us and it kept driving us forward. he's done very well. he's b
