as of january 1st, open agricultural burning is now banned in the san joaquin valley. te healthier air quality, but farmers say the cost is just too high. this stems from legislation first passed in 2003 phasing out ag burning and over the years farmers have been given more time to adjust. still they say this timing could not be worse. the grape growers association of lodi says that demand for wine grapes is down which means business is slow and this burn ban means farmers will have to use other methods to get rid of waste which could cost thousands more dollars. >> today what growers are facing is a much more convoluted process. as the burn ban takes effect january 1st, what they now are looking at is having to remove the wire, the steel, all the sort of tertiary things that come with a trellis vineyard and makes that process much more expensive. >> there is some help available. from here on out ag burning in the san joaquin valley is only allowed for rare exceptions with a permit, which includes disease prevention and clearing poisonous weeds. >>> we've been warning a
